Last week, CAN Tanzania successfully hosted project exit meetings in Kigurusimba and Msaraza villages in Pangani District to conclude the PRO-NDC-ACT project.

These sessions offered a valuable opportunity for reflection and discussion among community leaders and members. We celebrated the project's successes and addressed the challenges we faced along the way, while also exploring our joint sustainability plans.

During these meetings, we took time to analyse our collective journey and recognise the positive behavioural changes that helped local communities effectively implement Nature-based Solutions (NbS) to enhance their resilience to climate change.

As part of our commitment to knowledge transfer, we distributed a practical guide on nursery establishment and management, establishing a clear framework for roles and responsibilities following the project.
The meetings fostered collaboration, bringing together representatives from the Pangani District Council, village leaders, and the Tanzania Forest Services Agency (TFS).

Community members expressed their dedication to continuing the reforestation efforts initiated by the project, leveraging the sustainable practices and knowledge they have acquired over the past three years. The district, alongside ward and village officers, promised to play a crucial role in overseeing and coordinating these ongoing activities, ensuring a lasting positive impact on the community.

Saying goodbye is never easy, especially when it’s to people who’ve become part of our family.

Last week, we bid farewell to two climate volunteers (Ms. Helen Herbst and Ms. Melanie Weis .weis_ ) from Eine Welt Netz NRW organization , who have been a part of CAN Tanzania’s team since August 2024.

Their commitment and dedication in the field and policy work have shown what it truly means to volunteer with purpose and make a difference for the vulnerable communities.

Dear Melanie and Helen, you’ve left a mark not just on our team, but on the communities you’ve touched. And though your chapter with us is coming to a close, your impact will continue to grow in every seed planted, in every idea shared, in every goal moved forward.

Asante sana for working with us. Your CAN Tanzania family is incredibly grateful and proud of everything you’ve contributed.

Wishing you all the best in your next adventures! You are always welcome back to Tanzania.

Climate change affects each individual differently based on their gender. This disproportion calls for more inclusivity in our response efforts. This is why .tanzania is at the forefront of advocating for integrating gender and sexual reproductive health in climate policies and frameworks.

Today, our Executive Director, Dr. Sixbert Mwanga, will participate in a roundtable discussion aimed at showcasing how integrating gender and SRH into climate policies can foster more equitable and resilient communities.

Join us today(17th June 2025) in Bonn from 15:00 - 15:55 at WCCB / Rhine Level Rotunde Room.

Today we celebrate the tiny heroes that keep our ecosystems buzzing.
Bees are the invisible helpers of our farmers — and vital to biodiversity, conservation, and food security.

Last year we started to introduce beekeeping in our reforestation projects. So far we were able to bring beehives to the forests of Pangani and Kilimanjaro District and on Zanzibar. The bees help restoring endangered areas.

The relationship between gender and climate change highlights that the impacts of our changing environment are not equally experienced. Therefore, empowering women and youth is crucial for building resilient and sustainable communities.

On Wednesday, 14th May 2025, at Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) in Morogoro, CAN Tanzania hosted a workshop on the intersection of gender and climate change for its scholarship beneficiaries. This initiative is part of our scholarship program aimed at strengthening the capacity of women and youth from civil society organizations. The workshop brought together students and future leaders to enhance their understanding of how gender dynamics intersect with climate action and to inspire them to take action.

Through this session, participants explored strategies for integrating gender into climate policies and community initiatives, ensuring that everyone’s voice is included in the journey toward climate resilience.

CAN Tanzania invites stakeholders from all sectors to collaborate in expanding this scholarship program to reach more young people. The collaboration can take the form of financial support, professional mentorship, practical training opportunities, or partnerships in research and community projects.

CAN Tanzania actively participated in the 2025 Pan African Coalition for Adaptation and Resilience (PACAR) Workshop, held in South Africa from May 6 to 9, 2025. The workshop brought together coalition fellows from across the African continent. Organized by Power Shift Africa and Gender CC South Africa Women for Climate Justice on behalf of the coalition, it fostered collaboration and knowledge exchange.

Africa continues to face an escalating climate crisis, marked by increasing vulnerability and significant losses. For the continent, climate adaptation is not a choice but a necessity. Participants engaged in dynamic discussions on climate issues and on-site learning about community adaptation interventions and nature-based solutions.

The workshop helped shape Africa’s climate adaptation and resilience agenda ahead of global engagements such as SB 62 and COP 30.

We call for urgent action to scale up nature-based solutions and climate adaptation for a sustainable future.
