Can a new organ change who you are? 🫀🧠
For years, stories have circulated about heart transplant recipients taking on the personalities of their donors. But new research suggests this phenomenon isn't limited to the heart.
A recent study found that nearly 89% of transplant recipients reported personality changes after surgery—regardless of which organ they received. While heart recipients often report changes in physical attributes, the "ripple effect" of transplantation seems to impact the sense of self across the board.
This discovery challenges our understanding of the mind-body connection. Is it cellular memory? The systemic impact of major surgery? Or something else entirely?
Science is just beginning to scratch the surface of how our organs influence our identity.
What do you think? Is our personality stored in our brain, or is it woven into every cell of our bodies? Let’s discuss in the comments. 👇
