But most people leave having missed the best parts.

The real Bali is quieter, cheaper, and more breathtaking than anything you've seen online.

Here's everything you need to know before you go:

Imagine you wake up at 6am to the sound of a temple ceremony. A full breakfast costs less than €2.

By 9am you're on a scooter.

By noon you're standing in a rice field that looks like a screensaver, except it's real and you're in it.

Bali has jungle, surf, temples, food and nightlife all in one place. The trick is knowing where to go.

𝗙𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀

No direct flights from Europe. You'll have 1–2 stops — usually via Dubai, Doha, Istanbul or Singapore. Total journey time is around 16–20 hours.
Low season from ~€650 returnHigh season from ~€900 return
Best time for price and weather: May–June and September–October. July–August is busy and more expensive but still great. The airport is Denpasar (DPS) — it's the only one on the island.

𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗼

Ubud — temples, rice fields, culture
Stay here 3–4 nights. The Tegallalang rice terraces and Monkey Forest are close by. Go to Campuhan Ridge Walk at sunrise — it's free and better than most paid viewpoints.

Uluwatu — cliffs, surf, sunsets
Dramatic cliffs over the Indian Ocean. Watch the Kecak fire dance at the temple at sunset — get there 45 minutes early or you won't get a good spot.

Canggu — beaches, bars, good vibes
Great for surfers and people who want a social scene. Noisy at night — not for everyone, but worth one evening at least.

Mount Batur — volcano sunrise hike
You leave at 2am, hike 2 hours in the dark and watch the sun rise from a volcano crater at 1,717m. Around €25 with a guide and breakfast included. No experience needed.

Nusa Penida — the island day trip
45-minute boat from Sanur (around €8). Kelingking Beach — the famous cliff shaped like a T-Rex — is here. Rent a scooter on the island, not a private driver. Cheaper and more fun.

𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄

Getting around: Rent a scooter for about €4–5 a day. If you don't want to ride one, use Grab — it works like Uber and is very cheap.

Where to sleep: A good guesthouse costs €15–25 a night. A private villa with a pool is around €60–100. Check Agoda — it's often cheaper than other booking sites for Bali.

Food: Eat at local warungs (small family restaurants) and you'll spend €5–10 a day. Tourist restaurants charge 3x as much for the same food.

When to go: May to October is dry season — the best time. Nyepi (Balinese New Year) is one day when the whole island completely shuts down. You can't go outside. It sounds bad but it's actually an amazing experience to be part of.
