Foreigners in Ukraine: How to protect your health and safety in times of war.

Over the past few years, Ukraine has been at the center of a military conflict that continues to this day. Despite this, many foreign citizens continue to actively help Ukraine in various fields, such as volunteering, participating in humanitarian programs, filming documentaries, and starting businesses.

However, despite the absence of safe cities in Ukraine, the country's borders are open to foreigners and entry rules have not changed. The only restriction is that citizens of the aggressor country are not allowed to enter Ukraine.

Despite the difficulties associated with the conflict, Ukraine continues to be a hospitable country where foreigners can meet friendly people, learn a lot, and contribute to supporting the local population.

The war in Ukraine not only destroys cities and infrastructure, but also threatens people's lives and health. Foreigners visiting Ukraine should ensure reliable medical insurance to receive necessary assistance without additional costs.

However, safety is not limited to medical insurance. Foreigners visiting Ukraine must strictly follow safety rules. For example, find out the duration of the curfew in the region you plan to visit and do not stay outside during this period. It is also recommended to install an air raid alarm application on your smartphone and follow its signals if you hear them on the street.

In addition, foreign citizens visiting Ukraine should pay special attention to safety when moving around the country. It is also not advisable to travel alone in unfamiliar places. It is recommended to familiarize yourself with a local map in advance and orient yourself towards known places and landmarks.

Besides, foreign citizens should take precautionary measures against theft and fraud. It is necessary to be attentive in communicating with strangers and not to provide them with personal data or financial information.

Finally, foreign citizens should note that the situation in the country can change at any time. Therefore, it is important to follow the news and obtain information from official sources. If any questions or problems arise, contact the embassy of your country or local government authorities.

It is worth noting that despite the difficulties, Ukraine remains an attractive destination for tourism and business trips. It is important to observe safety measures and take care of your health and well-being.

On February 24, 2022, both Ukrainians and foreigners present in Ukraine came to the realization that the challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 were nothing compared to the horrors of war. Despite martial law in Ukraine and the resulting migration of several million people, as well as the restructuring of some healthcare facilities, the coronavirus has not disappeared.

According to Igor Kuzin, the Chief State Sanitary Doctor of Ukraine, there are currently around 1,500 COVID-19 patients hospitalized in hospitals located in relatively safe regions. Although hospitalizations have decreased by nearly 5% in the past two weeks, Ukraine has the necessary resources to treat COVID-19 patients.

Regarding COVID-19 restrictions in Ukraine:
1) The adaptive quarantine levels of "green", "yellow", "orange", and "red" are not applicable during martial law.
2) COVID certificates are not required for visiting accommodation, catering establishments, cultural institutions, public events, or public transportation.
3) COVID documents are also not needed for travel between regions.

The Ministry of Health advises people to avoid large crowds and wear masks, but in practice, masks are not required in most stores or public transportation.

For those entering Ukraine, the rules of crossing the state border are regulated by the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine №1236 of December 2020. Ukrainian citizens and permanent residents can enter the country freely without certificates or quarantine.

Foreingers and temporary residents are required to provide an insurance policy covering coronavirus treatment, as well as a vaccination or recovery certificate or negative test.

1. відрізати Росію від SWIFT;
2. захистити український повітряний простір;
3. направити війська НАТО в Україну.

* *

The famous street sculpture "Ballerina" 🩰 returned to its place.

A year ago, vandals smashed the Ballerina, and the Gurin Brothers workshop restored it.

The elegant figure of a ballerina is located at the intersection of Sretenskaya and Streletskaya streets. The sculpture is carved from linden, the ballet tutu is made of metal mesh, the face and hands are made of ceramics, and the hair is made of artificial threads.

Initially, when installing the sculpture, the dancer’s hair was red, but after the restoration in late 2013 – early 2014, the ballerina returned rested, prettier and … blonde.

Author of this unusual sculpture is Constantin Skritutsky.

Rozumovsky Palace is the only architectural structure in Ukraine designed by architect Charles Cameron. Built in 1799-1803, the only preserved and revived Hetman's palace, the pride of Baturyn. The palace of the last Ukrainian hetman Kirill Rozumovsky was built in the classical style, with columns, loggia, balconies and surrounded by a picturesque park.

Actually, the palace was built after the abolition of the hetmanate, when Razumovsky was count. After his death, the palace fell into the hands of the governor and was eventually destroyed by fire. It is said that the fire was arranged by the manager himself to hide his thefts.

The building has been in decline for more than 100 years. However, in 2002 it was decided to restore the historical monument. Until 2009, the palace was restored and now it is one of the most luxurious restored palaces in Ukraine.

Exquisite Italian furniture, chandeliers, chandeliers and walls are decorated with stucco.

The palace has 55 rooms. The exposition depicts the life of Ukrainian hetmans and the history of the palace. Visiting the Razumovsky Palace you will be able to enjoy beautiful sculptures, paintings, family portraits of Ukrainian hetmans. You will also be able to see Razumovsky's study, restored according to historical descriptions, a beautiful library with an invaluable exhibit - a bookcase of 1732. And the dining room is made in the theme of ancient Greek mythology.

The music collection of K. Razumovsky is kept in the palace. Hetman was friend of Mozart and Beethoven and loved classical music. Beethoven even presented Razumovsky three of his quartets.

Today it is one of the most visited tourist destinations. After all, Baturyn is the living capital of the hetmanate.

Do not miss the opportunity to touch on the history of Ukraine.

Pidhirtsi Castle • Ukrainian Versailles

Pidhirtsi Castle is located in the village of Pidhirtsi (Lviv Oblast) and is an outstanding architectural monument of Ukraine. A nice example of a combination of palace architecture and bastion fortifications. It consists of a three-story palace, church, inn and park.

The history of Pidhirtsi Castle dates back to the 16th century. However, at that time it was only a defensive fortification belonging to the Pidhoretsky family. The very name of the first owners gave the castle its name.

In 1633, Crown Hetman Koniecpolski bought the fortress and began its construction. French architect Guillaume de Beauplan designed new fortifications, and Italian engineer Andrea del Aqua designed a new palace and pavilion.

Within its walls in different years, this palace met kings, emperors and other nobility. Even the French writer Honore de Balzac stopped in Pidhirtsi. And the parks of Pidhirtsi Castle were once so beautiful that they became a model for Versailles and the park in Peterhof.

Pidhirtsi Castle was the king's residence, alchemical laboratory and even a tuberculosis dispensary. Throughout history, the castle has been destroyed and rebuilt many times. But each time, it was reborn even more beautiful.

However, not only interesting history and amazing architecture attracts tourists. Pidhirtsi Castle has its own mystical secret. There are eyewitnesses who saw a ghost in the castle. The ghost was named the White Lady. According to legend, one of the owners of the castle out of jealousy killed his young wife and buried her body in the castle walls. Now, the White Lady wanders the corridors and begs for a Christian burial.

The mysticism around Pidhirtsi Castle attracts psychics, ghost hunters and other paranormal hunters. Some even managed to photograph the White Lady. If you also want to plunge into a mystical adventure and tickle your nerves - welcome to Pidhirtsi Castle.

Lviv • Part 2

Hereby we continue Lviv must see places post.

Armenian District

In 13th century Lviv became a refuge for Armenians expelled from their homeland by Mongol-Tatar troops.

In Lviv, Armenians settled quite compactly, so all the sights are located on one street - Armenian. In the depths of the district, behind the sculpted gate, you will find the Armenian Cathedral - a landmark of the Armenian District.

Opera

If you reach the end of Virmenska Street, you will come to Svobody Avenue. Turn right and in a few minutes you will see the Lviv National Academic Opera and Ballet Theater, majestic columns and statues, balustrades and elegant stucco. The facade itself will bring you incredible aesthetic pleasure. But don't waste time admiring the rich interior of the theater. In addition to marble and gold, you can see paintings by famous masters.

Pototsky’s Palace

As early as the 19th century, a palace for the famous Pototsky family was built on the site of a small hunting lodge. The palace was built to meet distinguished guests.

The interior of the palace includes murals, spacious halls, fireplaces and a large courtyard for many carriages of the local nobility.

Now you can enjoy not only the interior of the palace but also the 18th century European art exhibits.

Immersing yourself in history and feeling like an aristocrat for a moment is the perfect option to choose.

Lviv • Part 1

It is no exaggeration to say that Lviv is the most touristic city in Ukraine.

Rich history, architectural masterpieces, museums. It will take you at least five days to soak up the atmosphere of this city and fully enjoy its beauty. But if you visited Lviv only on weekends - do not worry. We have selected for you TOP locations that will help you get to know the Lion City as much as possible.

⁃ Market Square

This is where your acquaintance with the charming city of Lviv should begin. Because, as all roads lead to Rome, so all tourist routes go from the Market Square.

The most famous square in Lviv is located in the center of the old part of the city. It is beautiful here at any time of the year. In winter, the square is decorated with colorful lights, and in summer - flowers.

Ancient townhouses and palaces, interesting monuments, amazing sculptures and fountains. A walk through the square is like visiting an open-air museum, because the exhibits are here at every turn.

⁃ Italian Courtyard

The Italian courtyard is the courtyard of the Kornyakt Palace, located in the Market Square. The name of the courtyard is quite justified by the architecture, which is logical, because it was created by architects of Italian origin - Peter Barbona and Paul the Roman.

Here you can see many antiques, admire paintings, sculptures. There is even antique furniture here. In the warm season there is a cafe on the territory of the yard where you can taste traditional Italian cuisine or enjoy fragrant Lviv coffee.

⁃ Town Hall

Before leaving the Market Square and diving into the labyrinths of the streets of the old city, be sure to go up to Lviv City Hall. The observation deck of Lviv City Hall offers an amazing view of the old town. Lviv City Hall is not only an architectural monument, but also the highest town hall in Ukraine.

Did you know that the Kamyanets-Podilsky Fortress is the only one in the world with an area of 121 hectares?

Kamenets Castle was built on the heights of the canyon, which is over 20 million years old. The stone walls seem to grow out of the rock and become its continuation. "Built by the hand of God" - this is what people say about the Kamyanets-Podilsky fortress.

The fortress was built in the 10th century. However, at first it was a wooden building with a fence, which was built to protect part of the Galicia-Volyn principality. But in the 15th century it was almost completely destroyed by fire. After that, the wooden walls were replaced with stone ones.

The fortress became stronger and even more attractive to the invaders. Many neighboring states tried to conquer it and turn it into their own fort post. This happened only twice.

In 1240 the fortress was captured by Khan Batyi. He destroyed half the city's population and enslaved the rest for decades. In 1362, the Lithuanian prince Olgerd recaptured the fortress, after which it became the property of the prince's five nephews. Further, the reconstruction of the fortress began, as a result of which it acquired the appearance we can see today.

Also, Sultan Osman II wanted to conquer the legendary fortress. There is a legend that being under the walls of the castle, the sultan asked who built it and he was told that Allah. To which the sultan said: "May Allah take him away."

The Kamyanets-Podilsky fortress consists of the New and Old castles and has 11 towers. Each tower has its own name and unique story. The new castle was built in the 17th century to increase the defensive capacity of the fortress. But now only bastions and casemates remain.

Centuries have passed, and the stone walls have survived to this day.
Generally, Kamyanets-Podilsky is one of the oldest and most beautiful cities in Ukraine.

So, if you want to immerse yourself in the special atmosphere of the Middle Ages, welcome to Kamianets-Podilskyi!
