On the night of October 16, the Defense Forces of Ukraine struck the Saratov Oil Refinery.

The Saratov Oil Refinery is one of the oldest oil-refining enterprises in Russia. As of 2023, its processing volume amounted to 4.8 million tonnes. According to Ukraine’s General Staff, the plant plays a role in supplying the Russian armed forces.

Ukraine’s Defense Forces are steadily implementing a series of operations targeting key components of Russia’s military-industrial base to weaken its ability to sustain the war.

These infantrymen have spent over two months holding their positions. Such a long deployment was a forced measure due to the extremely difficult approach and withdrawal from the frontline contact zone with the enemy.

From time to time, drones deliver them food, water, ci******es, power banks, and ammunition. And they stand — showing heroism every day despite exhaustion, cold, and constant shelling. They hold the line and give the country time to keep living.

Upon returning, they undergo a mandatory check at the stabilization point: hot tea, clean clothes, and silence that feels unnatural after months of explosions.

Ahead lies more work. But for now — only calm and rest, to regain strength.
And to take a breath of life.

Africa: Direct, a landmark exhibition in Ukraine, opens a new cultural dialogue.

Hosted by the Bohdan and Varvara Khanenko Museum, the exhibition is the first museum project in Ukraine’s independence era dedicated to Africa’s historical and cultural heritage.

The show features over 40 artefacts from 18 African countries, presented alongside commentary by historians, curators, and members of African cultural communities — as well as works by contemporary artists and documentary films.

At the heart of the exhibition is a private collection built over two decades by Ukrainian global health experts Tetiana Deshko and Andrii Klepiikov, who travelled extensively through Africa in their work. They hope that much of this collection will later become part of Ukraine’s national heritage.

The National Museum of the History of Ukraine has contributed 19th-century African weapons from its own holdings — including spears, swords, and daggers — acknowledging that Ukraine holds few historical African artefacts, but is eager to explore and showcase this rich legacy.

Organisers emphasise the significance of the project:
“Ukraine needs Africa. Africa needs Ukraine.”
The exhibition goes beyond art — it invites reflection on shared values, colonial histories, and the future of cross-continental connections.

Denmark and Ukraine strengthen cooperation on water and environment.

On October 8, 2025, a new Strategic Sector Cooperation project was signed in Kyiv between Ukraine’s Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture and the Danish Environmental Protection Agency.

The initiative, supported by Denmark’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will focus on Ukraine’s Water Strategy 2050 — including water resource management, groundwater, water supply, wastewater treatment, and pollution control.
The partnership will also align Ukrainian practices with EU standards and bring together Danish and Ukrainian public agencies and regulators. It builds on existing Danish collaborations in Ukraine across agriculture, energy, and healthcare.
