As Ukraine approaches the 40th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster, newly disclosed details highlight ongoing risks around its nuclear sites.

Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko revealed Russian military activity near key facilities, including both the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant and the Khmelnytskyi Nuclear Power Plant.

According to his statement:
35 Kinzhal missiles were detected within roughly 20 km of these nuclear sites.
At least 92 drones flew within a 5 km radius of the Chernobyl radiation shield.
In February 2025, a long-range drone strike pierced the plant’s containment structure.

“These launches cannot be explained by any military considerations,” Kravchenko said. “It is evident that the flights over the nuclear facilities are carried out solely for the purpose of intimidation and terror.”

Russia has repeatedly launched drones and missiles on a flight path near the disused Chornobyl nuclear plant during attacks on Ukraine, elevating the risk of a major accident, Ukraine's top state prosecutor told Reuters.

Today, 15th July, is Ukrainian Statehood Day

Ukraine traces its statehood back to the 9th century, when Kyivan Rus was established with Kyiv as its capital. In 988, Prince Volodymyr the Great baptised Rus, aligning it with European civilisation.

An installation “I’m Fine” was presented at the Burning Man festival. It was created by Ukrainian artist Oleksiy Sai and Vitaly Deinega, the founder of Ukrainian Witness.

The installation is made from real artifacts of the war, collected in the de-occupied territories. These are shot street signs, solar panels, satellite dishes, destroyed city name signs and broken fences. The work illustrates the devastating global consequences of the armed aggression of the Russia, which destroyed more than 2,024 objects of cultural heritage of Ukraine, including libraries, theaters and art educational centers. Of these, 334 objects were completely destroyed and cannot be restored.

Today it is 2 years since the full scale war began in Ukraine but the war lasts for 10 years already. This photograph was taken in the village Peremoha.

Peremoha means Victory.

A week after the full scale invasion, the village was occupied for 6 weeks by the russian army; shops and houses destroyed and those who attempted to escape were shot.

Ukrainians have to protect our lives, our land our culture and even our past. Ukraine is fighting against the invaders for our freedom, our independence and our future.

Winter fishing in Trypillia, Ukraine

Trypillia is a village in Kyiv Oblast in central Ukraine. It is also the site of an ancient mega-settlement dating to 4300–4000 BCE belonging to the Cucuteni-Trypillian culture.

This proto-city is one of 2440 Cucuteni-Trypillia settlements discovered in Ukraine and Moldova.

These young people used to spend a lot of time outside, sometimes living on the roof of garages, or down a manholes of the big city in Ukraine.

Once we went to a restaurant with them and it was a very special moment for all of us.
They were proud to order the food they wanted and to be treated like honored guests. Sometimes the little things can change the way we feel about ourselves.

We are all the same, someone has more from birth, others are forced to go through a difficult path.
