MPs have protested the decision by Ministry of Finance to reduce the Parliament’s budget by Shs145Bn next year, demanding to have the legislature’s budget to be restored to the current level.

Details in the 2025/26 National Budget Framework Paper indicate that Parliament’s Budget is set to reduce to Shs833.495Bn next year, from the current Shs978.570Bn in 2024/25

The Committee noted that the Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) of Parliamentary Commission for FY2025/26 as per the first Budget Call Circular (BCC) was less than the approved budget for the FY 2024125 by Shs145Bn. This reduction of the budget for Parliamentary Commission should be rectified by uplifting the MTEF. The Committee recommends that Shs145bn be provided to restore the Parliamentary Commission's budget to the current operating level,” read in part the report by Legal & Parliamentary Affairs

Parliament was informed that Uganda House in Nairobi was refurbished at a total cost of UGX26,309,22O,399, of which UGX24,439,543,359 was for project works and UGX1,869,677,040 for consultancy supervision. The refurbishment was intended to increase Uganda’s rental collections to UGX4Bn upon full occupation of the building.

Following the destruction, a detailed assessment of the damage and proposed remedial works was conducted estimated cost for full restoration at UGX7.2Bn

We were here paying tribute to Muhammad Ssegirinya and we raised concerns about how this House let down Ssegirinya, he was denied bail, we raised these concerns and the Presiding Officer told us, those are matters of court, but we said, the man is sick. Eventually, he was granted bail, he was rearrested outside prisons, and we brought the matter here, and we were again told that matter is in court. He eventually died because we couldn’t stand up for our own - Joel Ssenyonyi , Leader of Opposition.
