BUSIA COUNTY PARTNERS TO EMPOWER YOUTHS THROUGH ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE SKILLS
The County Government of Busia, in partnership with the British High Commission and Akukuranut Development Trust (ADT), launched an initiative aimed at educating and empowering young people on the importance and opportunities presented by Artificial Intelligence (AI).
While addressing Community Digital Champions during a skills training programme, Deputy Governor H.E. Arthur Odera revealed that the programme is structured around four key areas of specialization, commonly referred to as “tracks.”
The first track focuses on repair and maintenance of digital devices, where participants will be trained in repairing laptops, desktops, televisions, tablets, and other electronic equipment.
The second track is digital technology in agriculture, which will support farmers in solving key agricultural challenges, particularly in marketing farm produce, to minimize post-harvest losses.
The third area covers digital technology for creative arts, equipping youth with skills for faster content production, including quick creation of skits, easy editing, and other digital creative processes.
The fourth track focuses on online work, including skills such as academic writing, online research, and other digital-based income opportunities.
The Deputy Governor urged young people and residents of Busia who are interested in AI to embrace learning early, adding that within the next five years, Busia County and Kenya at large could see the rise of many millionaires through digital innovation.
He dismissed myths that AI may replace human jobs, emphasizing that AI is designed to complement human effort.
He explained that while AI systems can operate continuously, humans require rest, adding that the technology can help reduce workplace conflicts and improve efficiency and productivity in service delivery.
