🇰🇪 Over 200 Kenyans Fighting for Russia in Ukraine.

📌Among those involved are former members of Kenya’s security forces, as stated by Kenya’s Foreign Affairs Minister Musalia Mudavadi. Some individuals who have been rescued reported that they were forced to assemble drones and handle chemicals without proper training or protective gear, according to the minister.

📌Last week, Kenyan President William Ruto requested the Ukrainian government to help secure the release of Kenyans currently held in the conflict zone. Approximately 1,400 citizens from various African countries are fighting alongside Russian forces in Ukraine, with some reportedly recruited through deception, as stated by the Ukrainian government last week.

📌A young Kenyan athlete, captured in September in Ukraine, claimed he was tricked into joining the Russian army. Currently, around 200 Kenyans are fighting for Russia in its war against Ukraine, and that number may continue to grow.

🗣 Ggoobi Cautions Against Imprudent Money Printing.

📌The Permanent Secretary and Secretary to the Treasury, Ramathan Ggoobi, has warned that reckless money printing is one of the quickest paths to inflation and economic instability.

📌During an interview with our reporter yesterday, Ggoobi emphasized that the government's fiscal stability is driven by one key principle: only circulate the amount of money that has been properly programmed for the economy.

📌He pointed out that Uganda's economy is on a path of sustained and stable growth, thanks to strong coordination between the Ministry of Finance and the Bank of Uganda in managing fiscal and monetary policy.

📌According to Ggoobi, Uganda has moved past the era of uncontrolled cash injections and now bases its fiscal strategy on evidence-based management to protect citizens’ purchasing power.

📌He added that the government is focused on domestic revenue mobilization, efficient public spending, and avoiding unnecessary borrowing, all of which are vital for shielding the economy from external shocks.

📌Ggoobi’s remarks come at a time when many developing economies are grappling with rising inflation, driven by pressures from post-pandemic recovery, fluctuations in global commodity prices, and weakening local currencies.

👓 Ugandan Children Face Rising Rates of Eye Problems, the Government Warns.

📌The Ministry of Health has raised an alarm about the increasing incidence of eye problems among children in Uganda, warning that visual impairment is a silent crisis that undermines education and productivity.

📌According to ministry data, at least three out of every ten Ugandans suffer from some form of eye condition, with some districts reporting a prevalence as high as five out of ten.

📌Dr. Moses Muwanga, the Assistant Commissioner for Disability and Rehabilitation in the Department of Community Health, noted that refractive errors, such as short-sightedness and long-sightedness, are the most common issues among individuals under 40. In contrast, older adults often experience low vision due to age-related degeneration.

📌Muwanga stated that the ministry is enhancing its programs to integrate eye health into school and community health initiatives, in alignment with the National Eye Health Policy (2020) and the Health Sector Development Plan (HSDP III).

📌These comments were made during a regional inter-country meeting hosted by Light for the World, an international organization that supports persons with disabilities, at Imperial Resort Beach in Entebbe.

🗣 Col. Edith Nakalema Calls for Government Tax Cuts on New Innovations to Attract Investors.

📌The Head of the State House Investors Protection Unit, Col. Edith Nakalema, has urged the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) and the Ministry of Finance to review taxes on new innovations and streamline bureaucratic procedures that hinder investors and deter foreign investment.

📌Col. Nakalema made these remarks during a meeting with over 50 investors from the Netherlands–Uganda Trade and Investment Platform, whose ventures collectively amount to USD 2 billion. The purpose of the meeting was to identify and address challenges affecting the investment environment in Uganda.

📌The delegation, led by Bouwe-Jan Smeding, the Deputy Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, engaged with Col. Nakalema to explore ways to strengthen trade and investment relations between the two countries.

📌During the discussions, several investors voiced concerns about delays in goods clearance, inconsistent tax classifications, and inadequate service delivery from some government agencies, particularly the URA and the Ministry of Finance.

📌In response, Col. Nakalema emphasized the importance of government agencies adhering to President Museveni's directive: "Don’t delay an investor; don’t frustrate them." She also reassured investors of a stable and secure business climate, even during the current political season, reiterating the State House's commitment to protecting legitimate investors.

⚖️🗳️ Olive Lutaaya Jailed for NUP Military Drills.

📌Olivia Lutaaya, a National Unity Platform (NUP) supporter previously detained for nearly four years on treason charges, has been remanded again, this time for alleged unlawful drilling. She appeared yesterday before Kanyanya Magistrate’s Court in Kawempe Division, Kampala.

📌Lutaaya, along with 17 other NUP supporters, was previously detained, tried, and eventually pardoned by the President, drawing national attention to her case. The earlier charges of treachery and unlawful possession of explosives made her a symbol of alleged political persecution.

📌Authorities claim that on February 12, 2025, Lutaaya conducted a parade at the party’s Makerere–Kavule headquarters to celebrate Bobi Wine’s 43rd birthday.
