Lacambel Wod P'Ogena, the voice that once called the LRA rebels home, that carried hope into IDP camps, that refused to let despair have the last word has taken his final bow.

Oryema Johnny Baptist, popularly known to thousands as Lacambel, was more than a broadcaster on Megafm Gulu. In the darkest years of the LRA war, when fear ruled Northern Uganda and silence meant survival, Lacambel turned a microphone into a bridge. Through “Dwog Cen Paco” program, he spoke directly to those in the bush not with condemnation but with a father’s plea: "Return home please. Your people are waiting.” His voice became part of the peace process itself, reaching where roads and soldiers could not.

He carried messages from mothers to sons, from communities to leaders, from pain to healing. In a region torn by violence, Lacambel chose words that built bridges instead. He gave Acholi land a way to speak to itself again.

Beyond the studio, he was a household name, respected, loved, and listened to because he spoke the language of the people, with the heart of one of them. He used radio not for fame but for service.

To many in Northern Uganda who grew up hearing his voice on Mega FM, this is a big loss of a great storyteller, a peacemaker, and a son of the soil. But the messages he sent out still echo in homes rebuilt, in children who came home, in a community that chose reconciliation over revenge.

Rest In Peace, Lacambel 🙏
