Update: RUA Reunites Akullo (Laker) Lucy with her Biological Mother in Kalongo - Agago District

In a heartwarming turn of events, Laker Lucy who was later discovered to be Akullo Lucy, the young girl who disappeared from Nansana and ended up in Mukono Police Station has been safely returned to her biological mother by a team of Rise Up Acholi.

This successful reunification was made possible through a collaborative effort between the Uganda Police Force, local leadership, and Rise Up Acholi.

On 9th May, the Child Protection Department at Mukono Police Station handed over the girl to Eddie Ojara who represented RUA at Mukono Police Station. The team of RUA comprising of Richard Jomeo & Eddie Ojara transported the girl from Mukono to Gulu from 9-10th May.

The team, joined by other members Auma Lucy & Robert traveled to Agago to handover the girl where OC Kalongo Police Station and his officers escorted the team to the family of Akullo Lucy with support from the area LC.1. The handover finally happened at 20:30hrs on 10th May, 2024 (Ug time) at Acayo Nekolina - the mother’s home.

Throughout the struggle, the Uganda Police Force provided a secure and supportive environment for the reunion, while local leaders facilitated communication and coordination among all parties involved.

The biological mother, overjoyed to be reunited with her daughter, expressed her deepest gratitude to Rise Up Acholi, the authorities and community leaders for their tireless efforts in resolving the situation.

By this, I take the moment to inform general members of Acholi subregion that Akullo (Laker) Lucy is now safely back with her family, where she belongs.

This successful outcome is a testament to the power of collaboration and community support. We celebrate the reunion of Laker Lucy with her biological mother and look forward to continued efforts to protect and serve vulnerable members of our society. We appreciate each and everyone who supported this course financially, spiritually, and emotionally. RUA is forever grateful.
