IGANGA LCV CHAIRPERSON MEETS HEALTH CENTRE HEADS IN LANDMARK SERVICE DELIVERY SESSION

Iganga District LCV Governor Shabiru Isabirye Kalulu today convened a historic meeting with all heads of health centres in the district, alongside DHO, Dr. Kitimbo and Minister for Social Services who also serves as Women District Councillor for Namungalwe Town Council Hon. Nalule Jamawa.

Held in the Works Board Room, the gathering focused on improving service delivery at health facilities and strengthening supervision across Iganga. In only his third month in office, Governor Kalulu stressed that he intends to lead the district as a united team and will leave no one behind.

He invited the health centre heads to openly share their challenges and concerns so that these can be tabled before the District Council for practical solutions. Several issues were documented and will be presented to Council to drive positive change for the people of Iganga.

The Governor outlined key development priorities already underway, including:A modern maternity ward for Namungalwe Health Centre III,A modern dental unit and CT-scan facility for Nakavule Hospital.
Ongoing efforts that will see the upgrading of selected health centres to ease pressure on Nakavule Hospital.

He further advised the health teams to elect two additional supervisors among themselves to strengthen monitoring and ensure faster information flow, which will help raise health standards across communities. Governor Kalulu also announced that his personal monitoring visits will no longer be limited to Nakavule but will extend to every health centre in the district.

Dr. Kitimbo praised the Governor’s new approach, describing the meeting as one of its kind in the district and a clear demonstration of commitment to better service delivery.
This collaborative engagement marks a strong step toward accountable, people-centred healthcare for the residents of Iganga.

RECOVERY OF STOLEN 3-WEEK-OLD BABY - NAMUTUMBA

The Police in Busoga East Region is pleased to inform the public that the 3-week-old baby girl, Namulwa Sherina, who was reported stolen on 21/08/2026 at Namulu Village, Kizuba Sub-county, Namutumba District, has been recovered alive and in good health.

On 20/08/2026, a female suspect posing as a stranded traveler was accommodated for a night by one Mirembe Suzan at Namulu Village. The following day, the suspect disappeared with the complainant's 3-week-old baby.

A case of child stealing was registered at Namutumba Police Station vide CRB 289/2026 and immediate investigations and search commenced.

Through coordinated intelligence, and support from the community, the victim was traced and recovered on 24/08/2026 from a hideout in Kisiro village, Bugobi Sub-county withheld for further investigation purposes.

The victim was found to be in stable condition,and she has since been reunited with her biological mother and family.

The suspect identified as Musenero Janet was arrested and detained at Namutumba CPS.

The case file is being processed to be submitted to the Resident State Attorney for perusal and legal advice.

We thank the community, and local leaders for the cooperation that led to this recovery.

We strongly warn the public against the vice of child stealing and advise parents and guardians to be vigilant about strangers, especially those who seek accommodation while with infants.

BALUNYWA LEADERSHIP ACADEMY GRADUATES OVER 20 STUDENTS.

Balunywa Leadership Academy today graduated more than 20 students from its 21st cohort in a colourful ceremony held at the academy campus in Kasolo Village, Bulamagi Sub-County, Iganga District, at the home of Prof. Balunywa.

Chief Guest Hon. Isabirye Shabiru, the LC5 Chairperson of Iganga District, thanked Prof. Balunywa for the initiative, describing it as the first of its kind in Busoga and the Eastern Region. He praised the academy for training capable leaders across Uganda and beyond. The academy recruits students from universities and higher institutions with support from Basoga Nseete Leadership. Shabiru, himself a product of the academy, urged the Professor to push for the Opening of Busoga University, noting that Prof. Balunywa now sits on the NRM CEC and meets President Museveni one-on-one. He said a functional university would secure a lasting academic legacy in Iganga and Busoga, and advised graduates to uphold the academy’s name and put their skills into practice.

Prof. Balunywa said the academy, founded in 2022, has produced many leaders and continues to receive positive feedback. Many alumni have started businesses or excel as managers in problem-solving, communication, self-confidence, computer skills, modern AI training, discipline, and hard work among others. He called on parents to enrol university finalists and recent graduates for leadership training not offered in regular university programmes.

The academy Staff led by Dr. Kazungu Muhammad urged managers to register for refresher courses/Manager trainings, which are mostly online with physical sessions at the end of each cohort.

19 NEW LC1 & LC2 CHAIRPERSONS SWORN IN AT IGANGA CENTRAL DIVISION IGANGA MUNICIPALITY

Today, Nineteen Local Council One (LC1) chairpersons and LC2 leaders from Iganga Central Division have officially taken their oaths of office, pledging to put effective service delivery at the heart of their work.

The colourful swearing-in ceremony was held at the Iganga Central Division headquarters. It was presided over by Senior Assistant Town Clerk Dr. Kato Hussein, together with the LC3 Chairperson for Central Division, Hon. Kasimba Abubakar.

Both leaders called on the newly elected village and parish heads to lead with dedication, transparency and integrity as they take up their roles.

Official stamps for their respective villages and parishes were handed over during the event, empowering the leaders to begin work immediately.

Speaking after the ceremony, several of the new chairpersons thanked their voters for the trust placed in them and promised to address the pressing challenges facing their communities.

BCD RALLIES BUSOGA LEADERS ON DEVELOPMENT PRIORITIES AND UPCOMING PRAYER WEEK

The Busoga Consortium for Development (BCD) today held a key stakeholders’ meeting with Local Government leaders from across the sub-region at the Bugiri District Headquarters.

The meeting, led by BCD Director General Dr. Mula Anthony, aimed to update leaders on the Consortium’s progress and orient them on its strategic priorities. It also sought to rally stakeholders’ involvement in the preparation and mobilisation of Busoga Prayer Week.

BCD Governor and Bugiri LCV Chairperson Hon. Kasajja Davidson Mulumba, together with Deputy Governor and Iganga LCV Chairperson Hon.Isabirye Shabiru Kalulu, welcomed the team. The gathering brought together all LC5 Chairpersons, Chief Administrative Officers, NRM District Chairpersons, and other leaders from the Busoga sub-region.

Deputy Governor Isabirye Shabiru Kalulu urged the people of Busoga to fully embrace BCD projects. He also called on residents to join the Prayer Week, which concludes on 27th September at the Mayuge District Headquarters, where President Yoweri Museveni is expected to attend.

Speaking on behalf of the NRM District Chairpersons in Busoga, Haji Abubakar Walubi of Iganga District commended the Busoga Consortium for Development for its consistency and persistence in driving development across the region. The NRM leaders pledged their full commitment to supporting BCD programmes and projects.

PRIME MINISTER COMMITS TO EXPAND IGANGA HOSPITAL MATERNITY WING BY 2027/28 AFTER MP SEIF’S INTERVENTION

Prime Minister Rt Hon. Robinah Nabbanja has directed the Ministry of Health to prioritise the expansion and rehabilitation of the maternity and Neonatal facilities at Nakavule Hospital, following a strong intervention by Iganga District Woman MP Hon. Mariam Seif.

The commitment came in response to a written question raised by Hon. Seif under Rule 43(3)(a) of the Rules of Procedure of Parliament. The matter was addressed on the floor of Parliament during Prime Minister’s Question Time on Thursday, 6 August 2026. A formal written response was later issued on 10 August 2026.

Hon. Seif had highlighted the severe congestion at the hospital’s maternity and neonatal wings. The facility, which serves Iganga District and neighbouring communities, has been overwhelmed by the rising number of mothers seeking care, with many forced to deliver or recover on the floor due to inadequate space and resources.

In her prayer, the MP called for immediate infrastructure intervention by the Ministry of Health to expand and adequately equip the maternity and neonatal wings, alongside clear timelines for upgrading neighbouring Health Centre IIs and IIIs to reduce pressure on the general hospital.

Responding on the floor, the Prime Minister informed Parliament that government had taken note of the concerns.

A comprehensive assessment of the hospital’s infrastructure needs will be undertaken in the Financial Year 2026/27. *Plans for expansion and rehabilitation of the hospital will then be developed for implementation in FY 2027/28*, with the expansion of the maternity wing identified as the first priority.

The 4 Infantry Division Commander Maj General Felix Busizoori is appointed the Deputy Commander of the Land Forces.

The 3 Infantry Division Commander Maj General Wilberforce Sserunkuma is appointed the 4 Infantry Division Commander.

The Deputy 1 Infantry Division Commander Brig Gen Micheal Hyeroba is appointed the 3 Infantry Division Commander.
