Uganda has officially been declared free of Ebola after successfully ending the latest outbreak.
Health Minister Dr Chris Baryomunsi made the announcement, saying the country has completed the required 42-day period without recording any new cases.
The outbreak, which was caused by the Bundibugyo strain of the Ebola virus, recorded 20 confirmed cases. Health authorities say 18 patients recovered, while two people died.
The Ministry of Health thanked health workers, communities, and partners for their efforts in containing the disease through surveillance, contact tracing, and treatment.
Authorities, however, say they will continue monitoring the situation closely to prevent any possible re-emergence of the virus.

All school trips and educational excursions have hereby been banned across Uganda with immediate effect following the tragic Kapchorwa school bus crash.

The death toll has risen to 26, including 21 pupils and five members of staff, among them the school's director, Tadeo Ssekadde.

Authorities have suspended all school trips until further notice as investigations into the crash continue

Pope Leo XIV Appoints Fr. Dr. Bonaventure Bosco Gubazire as New Bishop of Kabale Diocese

The Vatican, through the Apostolic Nunciature in Uganda, has announced that His Holiness Pope Leo XIV has appointed Rev. Fr. Dr. Bonaventure Bosco Gubazire, M.Afr. (Missionaries of Africa/White Fathers) as the new Bishop of Kabale Diocese.

Until his appointment, Bishop-elect Gubazire has been serving as Rector of St. Martin of Tours Formation House in Ejisu, Ghana.

The Holy Father has also accepted the resignation of Rt. Rev. Callistus Rubaramira from the pastoral care of Kabale Diocese after reaching the canonical retirement age. Bishop Rubaramira, who has led the diocese since 2003, will remain Apostolic Administrator until Bishop-elect Gubazire officially takes canonical possession of the diocese.

The announcement was made today, 15th July 2026.

Tears as Students' Study Tour Ends in Tragic Highway Crash

What began as an exciting educational journey ended in heartbreak after a devastating road crash along the Mbale–Iganga Highway claimed the life of a dedicated bus driver and left 15 people injured.
The tragic accident occurred at Nawangisa Village in Bugweri District when a bus carrying 73 students of St. Paul Secondary School, Katakwi, on a geography study tour to Entebbe crashed into the rear of a stationary trailer.
The driver, 68-year-old Kasakya Abdallah, lost his life in the collision. The students, who had set off with hopes of learning and creating lasting memories, instead found themselves caught in a terrifying ordeal that has left families, teachers, and the wider community in shock and grief.
