Dead Bodies on Register Force NRM to Nullify Jacqueline Mbabazi’s Candidature — Wife to Former Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has nullified Jacqueline Mbabazi’s candidature for the parliamentary seat representing older persons in western Uganda.

The High Court in Kabale has sentenced Alex Prince, a 38-year-old resident of Kashongati village, Rukiga District, to 30 years in prison after finding him guilty of repeatedly abusing a 13-year-old girl.

According to prosecution, Prince lured the minor to his home under false pretenses before forcing himself on her and later intimidating her with threats to remain silent. He went on to exploit the girl on several occasions until she finally confided in her father, who reported the case to Rukiga Police Station in September 2021.

Delivering judgment, Justice Karoli Lwanga Ssemogerere noted that the victim endured severe emotional and physical trauma and emphasized that such crimes against children carry long-term consequences. He added that the heavy punishment should serve as a deterrent to others.

Prince will serve 30 years behind bars, reduced by nearly four years already spent on remand.

UPDATE : The Electoral Commission has revised the electoral roadmap, allowing presidential candidates to begin campaigns earlier on September 29 instead of October 4. Nomination dates for Members of Parliament have also been shifted from October 15–16 to October 23–24 .
