My family and I, as well as fellow leaders, comrades and lawyers from the National Unity Platform visited Luzira and Masaka Prisons today to check on political prisoners whom the Museveni regime has condemned there to years and months on remand as a punishment for opposing it.
We specifically checked on about 35 NUP comrades who were abducted from Uganda and neighboring countries during and shortly after the last general election and have since then spent several years at Luzira. We also checked on Dr. Kizza Besigye, Haj. Obeid Kamulegeya, and later the Eddie Mutwe group at Masaka Prison.
As always, it was uplifting seeing these comrades in high spirits despite spending ages in prison deprived of their freedom. It behooves us – their comrades still outside the physical prison walls – to firmly carry the struggle forward until Uganda is free of dictatorship!
