Uganda And Rwandan Defence Chiefs Meet in Kigali after Swearing in fete.

In a significant display of bilateral cooperation, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), met with his Rwandan counterpart, Gen Mubarakh Muganga, Chief of Defence Staff of the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF), at the RDF Headquarters in Kigali today.

Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Chief of Defence Forces of the Uganda Peoples' Defence Forces (UPDF), arrived at Kigali International Airport today, ahead of His Excellency President Paul Kagame's swearing-in ceremony on Sunday. He was warmly received by his Rwandan counterpart, Gen Mubarak Muganga, and other senior officers of the Rwandan Defence Forces (RDF).

Accompanying Gen Kainerugaba are Maj Gen James Birungi and Brig Gen Richard Karemire. Notable figures Alexander Akandwanaho and Andrew Mwenda are also part of his entourage.

The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who is also the Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations (SPA/SO), met with the Chinese Ambassador to Uganda, His Excellency Zhang Lizhong, at the Special Forces Headquarters in Entebbe.

The Wednesday afternoon meeting was a routine review of ongoing projects in the defence and security sector.

This meeting follows a previous one held at the Chinese Embassy in November last year, and comes on the heels of General Kainerugaba's recent meeting with a delegation from China North Industries Group Corporation Limited (NORINCO).

Chief of Defence Forces Eulogizes Late Colonel (Rtd)
Col (Rtd) Lauben Mugenyi, who passed away on 2 July 2024, joined the Defence Forces on 15th May 1985 and rose through the ranks until he retired from active service on 28th April 2024. Throughout his career, he served in different capacities both in Uganda and abroad.

Colonel Kenneth Muhaire, a close friend of the late Col (Rtd) Mugenyi, described him as a loving family man and enterprising person who worked diligently in the UPDF until his retirement.

Present at the funeral service were Generals, Senior Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs Officials, senior and junior officers, among others.
