There's bad news if you've got an old phone with Samsung Health (APK teardown)

Samsung Health has been around for well over a decade now, debuting as S Health way back in 2012. Unfortunately, new versions of the app are no longer available on much older Samsung phones.
Android Authority and app expert AssembleDebug spotted a message in Samsung Health that version 6.27 of the app is no longer available for devices running Android 9 or older. The message notes that this move took effect on June 24.

“You may still use Samsung Health, without upgrading Android OS, but will only be able to use limited services and features without further support,”.

We can also confirm that version 6.27 of Samsung Health on APKMirror indeed lists Android 10 or higher as the minimum version. By contrast, older versions of the app list Android 8.0 Oreo or higher.

In other words, you’re out of luck if you encounter a problem while using the older versions of Samsung Health on an old phone. This statement also suggests that you’ll be missing out on features.

Either way, this news means that phones like the Galaxy S8 series and older, Galaxy Note 8 and older, and a host of older A and J series devices can’t get new versions of the app. So you’ll need to either stick with the older version of the app or get a new Android phone.

This isn’t the first time Samsung Health dropped older Android versions, either. This most recently occurred in 2021, when Samsung dropped support for Android Marshmallow and Nougat devices in favor of Android 8.0 Oreo and newer.

YouTube finally allows users to report AI deepfakes of themselves

It’s mindboggling how many lives have been destroyed since the rise of AI-generated content. The fact that you can’t do anything against AI deepfakes of yourself is one of the many issues many people confronted with.

Big social media companies like Meta and Google do very little to protect their customers’ privacy. YouTube has finally announced that it’s expanding its privacy request process to allow users to request the removal of AI-generated or other synthetic or altered content of themselves.

In any case, those who would like to request the removal of their AI deepfake(s) must use YouTube’s privacy request process. The service will evaluate the request and consider “a variety of factors before removal,” such as whether the content is altered or synthetic and could be mistaken for real.

However, YouTube doesn’t seem to be too keen on removing what it tags as parody and satire content involving well-known figures. Obviously, YouTube will also check whether the person making the request is identifiable.

Last but not least, YouTube announced that creators notified about privacy complaints will not receive any strikes since privacy violations are separate from Community Guidelines strikes.

iOS 18 customization — the 5 biggest changes you need to know

Remember how iOS used to be criticized for its rigid, one-size-fits-all approach to design and layout? At the rate it's introducing customization features to its iPhone software.

Recent iOS updates have given you the ability to delete Apple's built-in apps, add widgets to your home screen and even alter the look of your home screen. iOS 18 contributes to this customization push with tools that leave the look of your home screen entirely up to you. No more grids of neatly arranged apps or icons with unalterable colors. Now you caan tweak all that, in the name of making the home screen's layout serve your idea of organization.

It's a bold new direction for iOS, though not necessarily one that will be difficult for iPhone users to master. From what we've seen in Apple's demos of the feature, customizing your home screen will work a lot like dropping in widgets or re-ordering apps does now — only with a lot more options.

TECH NEWS:
A first look at Microsoft’s new Surface Pro with Arm chips inside:

Microsoft has just announced a new Surface Pro, which is part of the new wave of Copilot Plus PCs. The new Pro, which is technically the “11th edition,” starts at $999( About UGX 38,055,234 ), comes in four colors, and is powered by Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon X processors. The base model comes with a 13-inch LCD screen, but you can upgrade to an OLED in some of the higher-end models. The chip is the star of the show here: it’s what enables a lot of the AI features Microsoft touted onstage, what makes possible the 14-hour battery life Microsoft promises, and more.

You can even use this keyboard away from the Surface Pro as it automatically switches over to a Bluetooth connection once you undock it. Microsoft has a tiny battery inside the base to enable this and the new haptic feedback on the trackpad in this Flex Keyboard. The haptic feedback doesn’t feel as prominent as on the Surface Laptop Studio 2, but it’s still nice to have inside this new keyboard.

The trackpad is also improved here, so vertically, it’s a little closer to the bottom row of keys, and it’s also wider than before. That makes it feel a little more comfortable to use during my brief hands-on.

The basic silhouette of the hardware hasn’t changed much, save for the new Flex Keyboard attachment. The tablet with an integrated kickstand has been a Surface staple for years now, and Microsoft continues to refine it rather than trying to reinvent it.

May 21, 2024, Microsoft continues to be at the forefront of promoting new tools for making AI software more accessible and powerful. One significant development in this regard is the launch of Microsoft AI Builder Studio.

Microsoft AI Builder Studio is a comprehensive platform that empowers developers and data scientists to build, train, and deploy AI models with ease. It provides a user-friendly interface coupled with advanced capabilities, making AI development more intuitive and efficient.

Key features of Microsoft AI Builder Studio include:

Visual Model Builder: This drag-and-drop interface allows users to build AI models without writing complex code. It offers a wide range of pre-built components for tasks such as image classification, text analysis, and predictive modeling.

Integrated Development Environment (IDE): AI Builder Studio seamlessly integrates with popular development tools like Visual Studio Code, providing a familiar environment for coding and collaboration.

AutoML Capabilities: The platform incorporates automated machine learning (AutoML) to streamline the model training process. Users can leverage AutoML to automatically select algorithms, tune hyperparameters, and optimize model performance.

Scalable Deployment: AI Builder Studio is tightly integrated with Microsoft Azure, enabling seamless deployment of AI models to the cloud or edge devices. This ensures scalability, reliability, and performance for production-grade applications.

Microsoft's promotion of AI Builder Studio underscores its commitment to democratizing AI and empowering developers to unlock the full potential of artificial intelligence. By providing accessible tools and resources, Microsoft aims to accelerate innovation and drive digital transformation across industries.
