To easily get food, the golden monkey prefers a habitat with abundant fruit and bamboo. The golden monkey will move in between areas depending on the season. During the season where ripe fruit is available they will remain in those areas where they can get fruit easily. When the rainy season begins this causes bamboo shooting to occur and the golden monkeys are found more in areas of bamboo forests.

Studies have found that if there is an area consisting of mixed fruit and bamboo, the monkeys will tend to frequent that area more than an area of just bamboo. However, one study reported that golden monkeys are most frequently seen in forests with bamboo, and this may suggest that this is one of the major preferences of the species.

The golden monkey will often return to one of several different sleeping areas after a day of feeding. The monkeys often sleep in small subgroups of four, at the top of bamboo plants. They will often use a dense bamboo plant, or a combination of several bamboo plants that weave together to make a sufficient foundation for sleep. The golden monkey will often feed near the sleeping area and return to this same sleeping location day after day.

According to Data from Uganda Bureau of Statistics, Uganda’s cement export earnings grew from US$94million (Shs337.9bn) in 2011 to US$106.8million (Shs383bn) in 2012, with majority of the products destined to South Sudan and the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo but dropped to as low as US$60.8millions in 2016 due to conflicts in the two countries. At the time also, cement prices in Uganda had dropped from Shs33,000 in 2016 to as low as Shs28,000 per 50-kg bag, a 15% drop occasioned by competition in the industry.

Uganda produces a lot of fruit, but only exports a small percentage of total production. This is mainly due to high levels of food waste. High quality standards in the foreign markets, consumer preference for legacy fruit varieties, and lack of investments in value-addition facilities are some of the reasons why 70% to 80% of Ugandan fruit never makes it to the market.

With choice improvements, Uganda may well export a larger and better portion of its country’s fruit in the near future. But out-of-reach standards for foreign markets, consumer preferences for legacy fruit varieties, and lack of investment in value-addition facilities have been pointed out as primary reasons why at present the majority of the product never makes it to market.
