Although seemingly straightforward, sexual consent is complex. As a form of sexual communication, consent includes a host of nuanced issues.

Therefore, important questions have to be asked.

What form should this communication take?
Does everyone involved have the same assumptions about what is being consented to?
Is consent a negotiable process?
Does the context of a relationship have a bearing on how consent decisions are made?

Join us on 27th of July, as we debate on the topic. Every opinion is welcome, in whatever shape or size.

‘BUT SHE WANTED IT’ is a powerful and thought-provoking a performance poem on r**e written by Ugandan poet Kagayi Ngobi.

Since its debut in 2023, the poem has been performed over 15 times around Uganda to great acclaim, including Kampala International Theatre Festival, Bridgeworks Artlab in Accra, Makerere University departments of literature and performance arts, Makerere Institute of Social Research and at the 2024 Bohei Festival in Cologne Germany.

‘BUT SHE WANTED IT’ shall be performed at the 2024 Kitara Nation Sexual Assault Awareness Week from 15th to 19th July 2024.

CALLING ALL WRITERS BASED IN THE UK AND SUB-SAHARAN AFRICA!

iniva is an evolving visual arts organisation based in London, home to the Stuart Hall Library and our UK partner in KLA ART ‘24 ‘Care Instructions’

is looking for writing commissions for its project Unseen Guests - A Post-National Digital Pavilion that will take place during the Venice Biennale.This opportunity is for one writer based in the UK and one based in Sub-Saharan Africa. The new work will be hosted on the Unseen Guests Digital Pavilion, alongside audio and film commissions and will engage in the digital public programme.

Writers whose practices are informed by anticolonial methodologies, Pan-African thinking, climate justice and archival research, and who are keen to work in collaboration with others are encouraged to apply. Writers will receive a fee of £1000 each and have the opportunity to go on a research trip to the 60th Venice Biennale in May 2024.
