Excerpts from an article by Abul A'la Maudoodi
"As to the question of a person being in fact a believer or not, it is not the task of any human being to decide it. This matter is directly to do with God, and it is He Who shall decide it on the day of Judgment. As for people, if they have to decide anything it is only this: Which person, according to the distinctive signs of the followers of Islam, as laid down by God and His Messenger, is within the borders of Islam, and which person has gone outside them. For this purpose, the things which have been taught to us as the foundations of Islam are the following:
Islam is that thou bear witness that there is none to be worshipped except Allah, and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, and that thou should keep up prayer, and pay the Zakaat, and fast in Ramadaan, and perform the pilgrimage to the House of God if thou art able to do it." (Muslim, Abu Da'ud, Tirmizi, Nasa'i)
These are the marks of the borders of Islam. As to those who are within these borders, we are commanded to treat them as Muslims. No one has the right to expel them from the community. As to those who have gone outside these borders, we must deal with them as required by Islamic teachings. In neither case are we empowered to judge what is in the heart. Our work is to look at the outward only, and what of us, even the Messenger of Allah in this matter looked only at the outward. Hence, Bukhari and Muslim agree on the report that once Ali sent some money from Yemen to the Holy Prophet, and the Holy Prophet divided it among four men. At this a man who was there said: "O Messenger of Allah, fear Allah!"
The Holy Prophet said:
"Woe to thee! Who on earth is more obliged to fear God than me!"
Khalid Ibn Walid was present. He said:
"Messenger of Allah, should I not kill him?"
The Holy Prophet said:
"No, perhaps he says his prayers."
Khalid said:
"Many are they who say their prayers, but do not have in their hearts what they say with their tongues."
The Holy Prophet said:
"I have not been commanded to open up the hearts of people or to cut open their insides."
Imam Shafi'i and Ahmad in their Musnads and Imam Malik in the Mu'atta have recorded the report that once a man from among the Ansar was talking confidentially with the Holy Prophet. Suddenly the Holy Prophet said loudly [about someone]:
"Does he not bear witness that there is no god but Allah?"
The Ansari said:
"Yes indeed, O Messenger of Allah, but his testimony cannot be trusted."
The Holy Prophet said:
"Does he not accept that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah?"
He again replied:
"Yes, he professes it but his profession cannot be trusted."
The Holy Prophet said:
"Does he not pray?"
He again said:
"Yes he does, but his prayer cannot be trusted."
The Holy Prophet said:
"God has forbidden me to kill such people."

The time is a type of wealth and what goes away from it does not return. ZAKAT AL-FITR! WHY !
The main purpose of Zakat al-Fitr is to provide the poor with a means with which they can celebrate the festival of breaking the fast (`Eid al-Fitr ) along with the rest of the Muslims.
Every Muslim is required to pay Zakat al-Fitr at the conclusion of the month of Ramadan as a token of thankfulness to God for having enabled him or her to observe the obligatory fast. Its purpose is:
1. As a levy on the fasting person. This is based on the hadith : The Prophet of Allah said, "The fasting of the month of fasting will be hanging between earth and heavens and it will not be raised up to the Divine Presence without paying the Zakat al-Fitr ."
2. To purify those who fast from any indecent act or speech and to help the poor and needy.
The latter view is based upon the hadith from Ibn `Abbas who related, “The Prophet of Allah enjoined Zakat al-Fitr on those who fast to shield them from any indecent act or speech, and for the purpose of providing food for the needy. It is accepted as Zakah for the one who pays it before the `Eid prayer, and it is sadaqah for the one who pays it after the prayer.” [Abu Dawood - Eng. transl. vol. 2, p. 421, no. 1605 - rated Sahih]

Ramadan is such a beautiful blessed month and now that it's finally here let's forget about our egos. Let's forget about our personal quarrels with friends and family. Why not make amends and repair broken bridges in your life. Don't wait until the end of Ramadan: do it NOW so that you enter Ramadan with clean hearts and the hope of being showered with Allah's mercy. Who knows? When you're standing in front of Allah on the Day of Judgement desperate for more good deeds, the Almighty in His Mercy may forgive you because YOU forgave someone in this life.

This is the beginning of Ramadan 2015
The fact that Allah has blessed you to witness another Ramadan is proof that Allah wants to see you in His VIP list to enter Jannah.
Be sure to make the most of this Ramadan and prove to Allah that you are worthy of the rewards of this honor that He has blessed you with.
The great companion Talha bin ‘Ubaidullah (radyAllahu ‘anhu) narrated that two men came to the Messenger of Allah (salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam) and became Muslim together. After accepting Islam one of them would strive harder than the other. The one who used to strive harder went out to fight in the way of Allah and was martyred. The other man who accepted Islam at the same time as the martyr lived a year longer, then he also passed away.
Later Talha reported that he saw in a dream that he was at the gate of Paradise and he saw those two men that had died. Then through the gates of Paradise someone came out and admitted the one who had died last into Jannah, then he came out again and admitted the one who died first as a martyr. Then he came back to Talha and said: ‘Go back, for your time has not yet come.’”
The next morning, Talha told the people of the dream and they were amazed. News of that reached the Messenger of Allah (salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam) and they told him the story.
The Prophet (salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam) said: “Why are you so amazed at that?”
They said: “O Messenger of Allah, the first one was the one who strove harder, and he died a martyr in the cause of Allah, but the other man (who didn't strive as hard and was not a martyr) was admitted to Paradise before him?"
The Messenger of Allah (salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam) said: “Did he (the second man) not live for another year?” They said: “Yes.”
The Prophet (salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam) asked: “And did not Ramadan come and he fasted, and he offered such and such prayers during that year?” They said: “Yes.”
The Messenger of Allah (salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam) said: “The difference between them is greater than the difference between the heaven and the earth.” ~ [Collected by Ibn Majah]
