Kampala Capital City Authority waste handlers that include street sweepers and drainage de-slitters have raised concern over poor working conditions and prolonged casualization.
These informal workers operate under difficult environment with meager pay without adequate personal protective equipment contrary to the principle decent worker agenda posing serious risks to their health
The workers are demanding for better working conditions, including establishing wage policy for salary reviews, remittance of over ugsh.9 billion in unpaid NSSF contributions and the regular provision of personal protective gear among other concerns
Trade Union leaders are now calling on Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) management to heed the workers’ demands and implement president Museveni directive on ending casualization of labour
President Museveni issued the directive during the 2025 Labour Day celebrations, instructing both public and private employers to put an end to prolonged casual employment.
