All I Want Is to Hug My Son Again”: Mother of Ugandan Activist Sam Mugumya Speaks Out For over twelve years, the mother of Ugandan political activist Sam Mugumya has lived with uncertainty, fear, and hope—hope that one day she would embrace her son again.
In a deeply emotional statement shared this week, Mugumya’s mother recounted the long years of separation, the silence of exile, and the pain of watching her son’s life unfold from a distance.
“I have not seen my son for 12 years,” she said softly. “When he was imprisoned in Congo, I always wondered if I would ever see him again. When he was released and went to Zambia, at least I had an opportunity to say hello to him on the phone.”
Mugumya, a former aide to opposition leader Dr. Kizza Besigye, was arrested in 2014 in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) under accusations of rebel activity. He spent eight years in detention before being released in 2022. After his release, he reportedly sought refuge in Zambia,

Speaker Anita Among Wants Me Dead , MP Akol Hellen Odeke Reveals A former parliamentary aspirant, Akol Hellen Odeke, has come forward with serious allegations that her life and that of her family are in danger following her attempt to contest against Speaker of Parliament Anita Among during the last general election.
Akol, who vied for a parliamentary seat in eastern Uganda, says she has endured persistent death threats, intimidation, and property destruction since the elections. According to her, individuals believed to be loyal to Speaker Among have repeatedly harassed her family, forcing them to live in fear and uncertainty.

“I have to inform the public about my life, which is being threatened,” Akol said in a recent statement. “I was also told that I will not reach 2025 when I am alive.”

Akol claims that her family’s home and property have been vandalized, yet local police have allegedly refused to intervene, saying her problems are “political” in nature.

Missing In Uganda : Seven Days On, Kenyan Activists Bob Njagi and Nicholas Oyoo Still Missing After Abduction It has now been seven days since Kenyan activists Bob Njagi and Nicholas Oyoo were reportedly abducted under unclear circumstances, and their whereabouts remain unknown. The two, both known for their outspoken activism and civic engagement, were last seen on October 1, 2025, in Nairobi, before going missing in what witnesses described as a targeted operation involving unidentified men.
Human rights defenders and civil society organizations have expressed deep concern over their disappearance, calling it a gross violation of human rights and a serious threat to civic freedom in Kenya.

“We are calling for the unconditional release of Bob Njagi and Nicholas Oyoo,” reads a joint statement from regional human rights advocates. “Abductions are violations of human rights and must be condemned in the strongest terms.”

Many Rights Activists Disappear as East Africa Faces Wave of Abductions By Its Governments A disturbing wave of enforced disappearances has gripped East Africa between August and October 2025, raising alarm among human rights defenders, families of the missing, and regional observers. The victims—journalists, activists, and outspoken citizens from Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania—have vanished under suspicious circumstances often linked to state security operations.
According to the Agora Human Rights Observatory, at least seven confirmed disappearances have been documented so far: Ugandans Sam Nsubuga and Sam Mugumya; Kenyans Bob Njagi and Nicholas Oyoo; and Tanzanians Humphrey Polepole, Rogers Yohana, and Ramso. One additional case remains unidentified, reflecting the growing uncertainty surrounding the true extent of the abductions.
Human rights advocates allege that the pattern reflects a coordinated regional abduction network, involving cooperation among security agencies in

Sudan: ICC Conviction of Ali Kushayb Sends a Stark Warning — What Museveni and Other African Leaders Should Learn The International Criminal Court’s historic conviction of former Janjaweed leader Ali Muhammad Ali Abd-Al-Rahman marks a turning point for justice in Africa — and a sobering reminder to leaders still implicated in abuses.
In a landmark ruling that reverberates across Africa, the International Criminal Court (ICC) has convicted Ali Muhammad Ali Abd-Al-Rahman, also known as Ali Kushayb, of 27 counts of war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in Darfur, Sudan, between August 2003 and April 2004.
The verdict — hailed as “long overdue” by human rights defenders — marks the first conviction related to the Darfur atrocities since the UN Security Council’s 2005 referral to the ICC.

Is Uganda’s ‘Dialogue’ a Path to Democracy or a Throne for Museveni’s Son?

By Alexander Luyima

From opposition stalwart to Justice Minister, Norbert Mao’s journey reflects a deeper crisis. As he labels Robert Kyagulanyi “toxic,” we must ask: Is he fighting for Uganda’s future, or helping to cement a political inheritance for the First Son?

KAMPALA – In Ugandan politics, the most dangerous lies are not the blatant falsehoods, but the seductive half-truths. The defection of Norbert Mao, the long-time Democratic Party leader, to President Yoweri Museveni’s government as Minister of Justice was presented to the nation as a victory for “dialogue.” For a growing number of Ugandans, however, it stands as the ultimate betrayal: a veteran of the democratic struggle absorbed into the architecture of the very system he once vowed to dismantle.
