Museveni Plans To Abduct Bobi Wine – NUP Diaspora Head Doreen Kajumba The National Unity Platform (NUP) diaspora chapter in Canada, led by Doreen Kajumba, has raised alarm over what it calls “looming threats” against the party president Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine), warning that President Yoweri Museveni’s regime could move to arrest him again as part of an intensifying crackdown on opposition voices.
Kajumba and her team point to a wave of abductions targeting NUP supporters across Uganda, carried out in unmarked “drone” vans by heavily armed men. Victims are frequently detained incommunicado, tortured, and released after weeks — while others remain missing.

Fears of Arrest and Repression
“NUP leaders and supporters strongly believe that Bobi Wine himself remains at great risk of arrest or abduction,” Kajumba said during a recent diaspora briefing. She added that Museveni’s government has a history of detaining him at politically sensitive moments.

Ugandans in Canada Stage Mass Protests Against Human Rights Abuses in Uganda Thousands of Ugandans living in Canada — organised by chapters of the National Unity Platform (NUP) and allied diaspora groups — held coordinated demonstrations on Saturday, September 13, 2024, to denounce what they described as a sustained campaign of repression, abductions and human-rights violations in Uganda. Protesters gathered in major urban centres to call on Canadian and other Western governments, international bodies and the UN to impose sanctions, investigate enforced disappearances, and demand accountability from Kampala.
Organisers said the rallies were part of a wider “NUP Global Diaspora” weekend of action timed to draw attention to a wave of disappearances and violent crackdowns against opposition activists and supporters inside Uganda. Demonstrators carried placards reading “Stop Abductions,” “Free Political Prisoners,” and “Diaspora for Democracy,” and staged short marches

Another NUP Leader Abducted as Wave of Disappearances Intensifies : Doreen Kaija The coordinator for the National Unity Platform (NUP) School of Leadership, Doreen Kaija, has reportedly been abducted from her home by heavily armed security operatives. Eyewitnesses say two “drone” vans — a term Ugandans have come to associate with abductions — stormed her residence and whisked her away to an unknown location.
Kaija’s abduction adds to the growing list of NUP leaders and supporters who have fallen victim to enforced disappearances in recent months. Families and colleagues describe a climate of fear, where targeted arrests and abductions have become a routine method of silencing dissent.

A Pattern of Abductions
Since the 2021 general elections, reports of NUP supporters being picked up by security forces — often without warrants or charges — have continued to surface. Victims are allegedly blindfolded, beaten, and detained in undisclosed facilities, with many

UPDF Denies Holding Missing Activist Sam Mugumya The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has told the High Court in Kampala that it is not holding opposition activist Sam Mugumya, who has been reported missing under unclear circumstances.

In a sworn affidavit filed in the Civil Division of the High Court on Friday, Lieutenant Colonel Edgar Musasizi, the Director of Civil Affairs at the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs, said an extensive internal search had been carried out but no record of Mugumya’s detention was found.

“I do satisfy and return that Sam Mugumya has not at any material time been in the custody of the respondents in this matter,” Musasizi stated.

The affidavit was filed in response to a writ of habeas corpus sought by Mugumya’s legal team, which had asked court to compel security agencies to produce him.

Burkina Faso bans homosexuality as a crime punishable With 5 Years In Prison Burkina Faso’s government has passed a law banning homosexuality, with those found guilty facing two to five years in prison, according to the state broadcaster.

The draft law was unanimously passed on Monday by 71 unelected members of the country’s transitional government, which has been in place since the military seized power under the leadership of the now President Ibrahim Traore, after two coups in 2022.

Justice Minister Edasso Rodrigue Bayala announced the law on national broadcaster RTB and said those guilty would also face fines along with serving prison time.

“If a person is a perpetrator of homosexual or similar practices, all the bizarre behaviour, they will go before the judge,” he said, adding that foreign nationals would be deported under the law.

The new law is expected to go into effect immediately.

City Pastor Daniel Walugembe Dismisses Land Grabbing Claims, Cites Court-Backed Katanga Ownership City Pastor Daniel Walugembe has dismissed accusations on Katanga Valley land near Wandegeya saying that he owns Kibanja interests and not the landlord.
He said that his interests were confirmed by the Courts of law following different court decisions of 2015, 2019 and 2021 while his accusers lost their claims lost.
“I acquired my interests from the family of the late Ashe Mukasa Sendaula who sold me 15 acres of their Kibanja while the 13.7 acres were sold to me by the other licensees. It is unfortunate that today a section of people are going around blackmailing me for grabbing their bibanja yet their claims were dismissed for lack of evidence,” he said.
Addressing the media in Kampala, Walugembe armed with documents said that his interests were confirmed by court decisions which were never appealed nor challenged.

Tears Flow as Eddie Mutwe’s Daughter Prevented from Reaching Him in Court It was a moment that lasted less than a minute, but its emotional weight will linger for much longer. When Edward Ssebuufu, better known as Eddie Mutwe, was led into the Chief Magistrate’s Court in Kawempe alongside fellow activist Achileo Kivumbi, the courtroom fell silent. The silence broke only when a child, Eddie’s young daughter, rushed forward to greet her father.
She barely made it halfway before prison warders swept her up and carried her out. In that instant, Mutwe’s face crumbled. He raised his shackled hands ever so slightly, as if to reach out, but the distance remained unbridgeable. Kivumbi, standing by his side, bowed his head, visibly overwhelmed. Supporters in the gallery wiped tears, some muttering prayers, others shaking their heads in disbelief.
For many Ugandans, Mutwe is known as a fierce opposition figure and close aide to Robert Kyagulanyi, alias Bobi Wine. He has faced repeated

Political Oppression : From Amin to Obote to Museveni Uganda’s post-independence history has been marked by turbulence, repression, and contested governance. While each era—Idi Amin (1971–1979), Milton Obote’s second administration (1980–1985), and Yoweri Museveni’s long rule (1986–present)—has been distinct, striking continuities persist. A comparative analysis reveals that despite changes in leadership, authoritarian structures and methods of control have survived and adapted, producing cycles of fear and unaccountability.

Idi Amin’s Rule (1971–1979): Militarism and Fear
General Idi Amin seized power in a 1971 coup, overthrowing Milton Obote. His regime became synonymous with terror, as state organs such as the State Research Bureau (SRB) and military intelligence carried out mass killings, torture, and forced disappearances.

Uganda’s Cycles of Repression: From the 1970s to Today Uganda’s modern political landscape continues to evoke comparisons with its turbulent past. A historical examination of state practices between the 1970s–1986 and those in the present day suggests that despite regime change, many instruments of repression have endured, albeit under different forms and names.

Repressive Mechanisms: A Comparative View
In the 1970s, Ugandans lived under the shadow of arbitrary abductions, detention without trial, and political violence. The infamous “panda gari” operations—where citizens were rounded up in military trucks—instilled widespread fear. Today, that imagery is mirrored in the use of “drones”, unmarked vans employed in the abduction of government critics and opposition activists.

The Wage of Poverty: Uganda’s 1984 Minimum Wage and the Struggle to Survive By Alexander Luyima | Hoima Post

(UGANDA) In 1984, Uganda set the national minimum wage at six thousand shillings a month. Forty years later, that figure still defines the legal worth of labour. It is a sum so low that it cannot buy a day’s meal for an average family, yet it remains the law of the land.

The World Bank’s poverty line is two dollars and fifteen cents a day. Uganda’s minimum wage does not reach that amount in an entire week. This is not an abstract statistic. It is the lived reality of millions of Ugandans who wake up every day to jobs that do not feed them.

Poverty Across Districts

In Kampala, a security guard working in the city center earns about one hundred and fifty thousand shillings a month. Rent in most city suburbs begins at two hundred and fifty thousand. The arithmetic is impossible from the start.

In Gulu, where the scars of war still shape the economy, casual
