Being a student of art means finding inspiration everywhere. Lately, my creative journey has led me through Kigali’s mesmerizing art scene, and I’m completely in awe.

Before we start this artistic journey, let me share some Kinyarwanda phrases that helped me connect with the warm hearts of Rwanda:

Mwaramutse - Good morning
Mwiriwe - Good afternoon/evening
Murakoze - Thank you
Yego - Yes

Swipe through to explore how art breathes life into Kigali’s spaces ➡️

1-4: Rwanda Art Museum 🏛️
Walking through the former Presidential Palace was surreal. Beyond its striking art collection, this space holds profound historical significance. The preserved debris from the presidential aircraft (April 6, 1994) - though photography isn’t permitted - offers a powerful, sobering glimpse into Rwanda’s history. It’s a must-visit for understanding how art and memory intertwine.

5-8: Inema Art Center
A vibrant heartbeat of contemporary creativity! This free-to-visit center surprised me with an impromptu traditional dance rehearsal. The energy here is electric - from experimental installations to the rhythm of traditional performances.

9: Kigali Convention Center
When night falls, its dome transforms into a glowing beacon, mirroring Rwanda’s bright future.

10-12: Niyo Art Gallery
This free-entry gem is a community sanctuary nurturing young talent. I stumbled upon dancers practicing traditional moves - these unexpected moments make Niyo truly special. The contemporary Rwandan art here speaks volumes about the country’s creative evolution.

13-15: BK Arena 🏟️
The newest architectural marvel in Kigali offers guided tours at $10 for African residents and $20 for non-residents - absolutely worth checking out! A testament to Rwanda’s vision for the future.

16: Nyandungu Urban Wetland Eco Tourism Park 🌿
Where nature meets urban design in perfect harmony.

17-18: Silverback Mall

Art has a way of speaking to the soul, and Niyo Art Gallery in Kigali is a place where those stories come to life.

I recently took my niece and nephew here—my niece loves drawing, and I knew this would inspire her creativity.

The gallery is not just about showcasing art; it’s about celebrating talent and community. Founded by the visionary Pacifique Niyo, it started as a platform to empower young artists and has grown into a vibrant space of cultural expression.

Walking through the gallery, we saw incredible works that reflect Rwanda’s history, culture, and future. For my niece, it was a chance to see what passion and dedication can create. For me, it was a reminder of how art connects us all.

If you ever visit Kigali, make time for Niyo Art Gallery—it’s not just a gallery; it’s a journey through stories painted with heart.

Wrapping up my Magical Kenya journey here in the heart of Lamu – my absolute favorite stop on this adventure!

From the gentle rhythm of the dhow as it glided across the water, to the timeless alleys of Lamu Old Town, each moment felt like a step back in time and a deep dive into Kenya’s rich coastal heritage.

One of the highlights? Watching a traditional Swahili performance on the floating bar at sunset! The music, the dances, the people – it’s a piece of Kenya that’s unforgettable.

If you’ve been with me on this journey, thank you for exploring Kenya alongside me. And if you’re just joining, you’ve got the best seat in the house to catch up on all the episodes!

Working behind the camera has taught me that every great shot starts long before you press record. From early setups and location scouting to fine-tuning the gear, it’s all about those small details that make a big impact. 💯

Sure, things don’t always go as planned, but planning out every element is key to capturing the magic. 🎥✨

The Samburu people of Kenya don’t just have an amazing culture, they have beautiful women too 😎

One of the things you should never forget when you visit is that a Samburu woman is typically considered single if she wears a relatively small number of plain, primarily red beads around her neck.

Just taking a moment to reflect on the amazing time I had collaborating with the super-talented team from the Danish Broadcasting Corporation.

Being part of documenting an episode of a popular TV Film series that follows the adventures of Anne Hjernøe and Anders Agger was an absolute honor and It’s so impressive how much we get to learn within a very brief interaction on sets like this.
