The Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Bill 2023 has taken a centre stage in parliament as different proposals have been suggested. If the bill is passed by parliament and assented to by the President, a person found in possession of Narcotic Drugs will be charged 1 billion shillings or serve a 20-year jail sentence. The committee also proposed to have any individual who administers narcotics drugs to a child be fined Shs.1Bn or imprisonment for life.

Uganda Peoples' Defence Forces and the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo in the Operation Shuuja have so far recovered 9500 rounds of ammunition from the ongoing operation against the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) that began on the 30th November 2021. FDC Secretary General, Mr. Nandala Mafabi has fired back at Speaker who declined to remove MP Ssemujju Nganda as the party’s whip in Parliament. Nandala has accused the Speaker of meddling in FDC’s internal operations.

Hearing of a case in which nine people are charged with the murder of a one Susan Magara in 2018 , has been adjourned to October 16th this year due to lack of funds. High Court Judge Alex Mackay Ajji revealed that currently, there is no operational funds to secure at least five State paid lawyers and also to increase the number of court assessors to follow the case, while the DPP lacks funds to facilitate her witnesses.

Taxi drivers protests in Bushenyi. Several protesting taxi-drivers stormed Bushenyi District headquarters on Wednesday, accusing local police of conniving with bus operators to kick them out of business.

Taxi operators claim local authorities have since conspired to go against a recent resolution which allowed each bus company a daily use of only 4 buses on the Mbarara-Bushenyi- Mitooma route.

Adaptation of the resolution involved the ministry of transport, bus owners and taxi operators in Ishaka-Bushenyi Municipality.

Lawyer Katabazi handed over to police over nursery tea growers money.
The parliamentary committee on commission’s statutory authorities and state enterprises has handed over a city lawyer Patrick Kiconco Katabazi to the Police CID at Parliament after he failed to account for UGX 39 billion that was meant to be paid to Nursery tea growers in Kigezi sub region. Kiconco from Pathway Advocates had appeared before the committee to answer queries raised by the auditor general in his report for the financial year 2021-2022 which indicated that NAADs paid tea nursery operators 39 billion Uganda shillings through him but he never paid some of the beneficiaries.

In a meeting with members of National Association of Broadcasters at State House, Entebbe, President Kaguta Museveni indicated that the problems of UBC will not be solved through government adverts.
