I really thank the UPDF family in Kihumulo, under the command of Lt. Col. Kaganda, for the amazing security support they have provided throughout these difficult days since our Mzee breathed his last. Your presence, protection, and support have meant so much to our family. I sincerely give the UPDF great credit and appreciation. May God bless you all.

The next programme will include prayers at St. Andrew’s Church of Uganda, Nyabikoni, in Kabale District. After the prayers, the body will be taken to his retirement home in Bwambara, Rujumbura, Rukungiri District.

Burial will take place on Sunday, 16th August 2026.

May his soul rest in eternal peace. Amen.

Local Governments Ordered to Tighten Alcohol, Betting Controls

KAMPALA — August 11, 2026: The Ministry of Local Government has directed local government leaders to strengthen transparency, accountability and community productivity.

The directives, issued on August 10, require councils to allow journalists to attend council sittings and display approved budgets publicly to enable residents to monitor government programmes.

Local authorities have also been directed to prevent the sale of alcohol to people below 18 years and discourage early-morning drinking. Bars, Malwa joints and other alcohol outlets should not open before 3:00 p.m. on working days, subject to applicable laws and regulations.

The Ministry further ordered local governments to regulate betting operating hours to protect communities, particularly young people, from excessive betting.

A 13-year-old boy known as “Mud Hunter” has reportedly been arrested in Lyantonde District over alleged abusive social media posts targeting members of the public, including Uganda’s First Family.

Police are reportedly investigating the matter, with authorities urging social media users to avoid offensive content. As a minor, the suspect is expected to be handled under applicable child protection procedures.
