Bhar El Ghazal Inter-Counties Tournament Kicks Off in Juba

The Bhar El Ghazal Inter-Counties Tournament officially kicked off today, Saturday, August 8, 2026, at Buluk Playground, with an exciting opening match between two defending champions: Yirol East County and Awiel East County.

The Group A opener ended in a goalless draw, with both teams earning one point each.

Both sides started strongly, battling for control of the game. Around the 20th minute, Yirol East began to dominate possession in the middle of the field and created pressure on Awiel East.

However, the match was interrupted in the 25th minute by heavy rain. Play was stopped for nearly 30 minutes before the weather improved and the game resumed. Despite the interruption, both teams continued to fight hard until the end of the first half, which finished 0–0.

At the start of the second half, Awiel East head coach Angok Daniel made two important substitutions, bringing team captain Toni Aluk Akech into central midfield and Deng Deng into central defence. The changes helped Awiel East regain momentum and improve their movement and control in the second half.

Both teams continued to battle strongly across the pitch, producing an entertaining and competitive encounter. Despite several attempts from both sides, neither team could find the breakthrough in the final whistle.
