The High Court in Kampala has set September 1, 2025, as the hearing date for the treason case against opposition politician Dr. Kizza Besigye, his aide Obeid Lutale, and a UPDF soldier, Capt. Denis Oola.
According to the hearing notice issued by the Court’s Assistant Registrar, Samuel Twakire, the hearing of evidence in this case will start at 11 a.m. during a Criminal Session of the High Court.

Mary Busingye Karoro Okurut (born 8 December 1954 and died on 11th August 2025), more commonly known as Mary Karoro Okurut, was a Ugandan educator, author and politician. She was a Cabinet Minister in Charge of General Duties in the Office of the Prime Minister, in the Ugandan Cabinet. She was appointed to that position on 6 June 2016. Prior to that, from 1 March 2015 until 6 June 2016, she served as Cabinet Minister for National Security.

The acting NRM registrar for Mbarara City, Patrick Kaweesi, has officially announced the winners of the woman city councillor primaries across several wards.

In Kamukuzi Ward, Mary Matsiko was declared the NRM flag bearer after securing 1,630 votes (44.2%), defeating incumbent Monica Mutabaruka, who garnered 771 votes (20.9%), and Barbra Rubabinda, who received 401 votes.

In Nyamityobora Ward, Flavia Kyomuhendo emerged victorious with 3,865 votes (60%), beating Jessica Byaruhanga, who polled 2,279 votes (40%).

Students at Kyeibare Girls Secondary School are counting losses after a devastating fire broke out around 5:00 a.m. on Friday, razing down a girls' dormitory and destroying property worth millions of shillings.

According to the school’s headteacher, Olive Nuwasasira, residents in the surrounding community rushed in to help, but their efforts were greatly hampered by the delayed response of the fire brigade. No injuries were reported.
