UPDATE : LEMU Trains leaders on customary land management and conflict mediations

More than 200 leaaders of Chegere Sub county, Apac District, including cultural, political and religious leaders have undergone training on customary land management and dispute resolution.

The training organised by Land and Equity Movement in Uganda (LEMU) was facilitated by advocates and law students of Uganda Christine University (UCU).

LEMU Executive Director Dr. Theresa Auma says the training intends to enhance knowledge and capacities of leaders in resolving customary land disputes in communities.

According to Dr. Auma, under the flagship Keep Your Land Keep Your Seed Campign, the organisation wilfacilitate land dispute mediations in Apac from Saturday 4th to 10th October, 2025.

UPDATE: More than 95 percent of the 400 children who under went operations during the ongoing children's surgical camp at Lira Regional Refferal Hospital have been discharged.

Dr Okullu Obong Geoffrey, the Hospital's Head of surgery says no complication has been registered and that all the children are recuperating well.

According to Dr Okullu Obong, their initial target was to conduct 600 surgeries in two weeks, but that they are overwhelmed with a high turn up of mothers with children who require operations to correct some abnomalities.

Dr Newton Odongo, the head of Peadratic surgery at Lira Regional Refferal Hospital says more that 2,000 children have so far registered but that others will be operated after the close of the surgical camp.

The Hospital Ag. Director Dr. Andrew Odur applauded the populace for listening to their call, pledging for the Hospital's continued provison of high quality health care.

UPDATE: At least 400 children have so far been operated during the ongoing children's surgical camp at Lira Regional Refferal Hospital.

The Hospital's Head of Peadratic Surgery Dr Newton Odongo told Voice of Lango FM that majority of the cases are hernia and hydrocel.

Dr.Odongo added that the other conditions which they have also conducted surgeries on are; aorectal malformation, Lippmann and cystic dwellings.

The Hospital in collaboration with Love Without Boundaries is conducting a Peadratic surgical camp where over 1,000 children are expected to be operated.

The children's surgical camp which started on Monday is expected to run upto 5th September 2025 according to the Hospital Ag. Director Dr. Andrew Odur.
