As we gather in our churches today, let's remember that our faith is not just about what we believe, but also about how we live. Jesus taught us to love our neighbors as ourselves (Mark 12:31).

My heart still aches as I think of the brother I met today, struggling to survive with one arm. His humble gratitude for a simple loaf of bread and some sugar is a haunting reminder of the desperation that surrounds us. Let's not turn a blind eye to the needs of those around us. Today i visited a poor widow with 4 kids, lost the husband last year and ever since then, life has been so difficult with her kids. They are going through lots of hardship. The children are not in school because she cant afford it on top of supporting the family basic needs. I gave them a small package of bread, soap and sugar and also had a prayer with them. And i promised to go back and check on them with time.
Feel free to bless this family with clothings, food, necessities or even help the kids go to school. Any form of support is welcome. Thank you and God bless you

The plight of orphans and vulnerable children in Uganda is a pressing concern. Many of these children have been affected by poverty, HIV/AIDS, conflict, and other factors that have left them without parents or a stable support system.

According to UNICEF, there are approximately 2.5 million orphans in Uganda, with over 1.4 million of them having lost one or both parents due to HIV/AIDS. Many of these children are forced to live in poverty, without access to basic necessities like food, shelter, and healthcare.

Orphans and vulnerable children in Uganda often face numerous challenges, including:

- Limited access to education and healthcare
- Increased risk of exploitation and abuse
- Emotional trauma and psychological distress
- Stigma and discrimination
- Limited opportunities for economic empowerment

Efforts are being made by the Ugandan government, NGOs, and international organizations to address the plight of orphans and vulnerable children. These efforts include:

- Providing access to education and healthcare
- Establishing child protection systems
- Supporting economic empowerment programs
- Promoting advocacy and awareness

However, more needs to be done to address the scale and complexity of the issue. It requires a collaborative effort from all stakeholders to ensure that these children receive the support and care they need to thrive.

Why Seed of Light? (SOL)

Seed of Light Children’s Ministry is a Christian community based organization that was established 2013. It is intended to cover three districts and that is Luweero, Nakaseke and Nakasongola and later the whole country Uganda. Our head offices are located in Wobulenzi town council, Luweero district. This organization was formed in response to the increasing rate of child abuse and neglect, increasing orphans without enough care to meet all their basic needs as children.

The Situation Analysis 2010 categorized Orphans and other Vulnerable Children into three broad groups namely; i) the critically vulnerable, ii) the moderately vulnerable, and iii) the generally vulnerable.

Children constitute about 57.4 percent of Uganda’s total population of 30.7 million people (UNHS, 2009/2010). This amount to an estimated 17.1 million children below the age of 18 years, of whom 14 percent (2.43 million) have been orphaned, 45.6 percent (1,108,080) of the orphans are due to HIV and AIDS and 105,000 children between the ages of 0-14 are HIV positive. Approximately 51 percent (8.1 million children) are either critically or moderately vulnerable, while 63 percent live with caregivers other than their biological parents. Currently, at least one in every four households has an orphan and 3 million children live below the poverty line (Situation Analysis2010).
