NFA to evict over 1,000 people in Masindi.

Over 1,000 residents in the four cells of Kisabau, Mirya, Kikonya and Kyetegya in Kigulya Division Masindi Municipality are on the verge of being evicted from their land measuring about 100 acres by National Forestry Authority (NFA).

The contested Kigulya Forest Reserve land lies around Kigulya Hill.

It’s alleged that on Friday, a team from NFA manned by security comprising the Uganda Police Force (UPF) and Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) installed their mark stones one kilometre from the demarcated boundary.

Alex Ujigi, the LC2 Chairperson for Kigulya Ward explains that NFA officials planted their mark stones without involving the local community members thus encroaching on their land.

He stresses that earlier, the NFA involved the locals to demarcate their boundary unlike on Friday when they extended their boundary to the community land.

Ujigi who is also a victim asserts that NFA has encroached on 100 acres of land in Kisabau Cell, 200 acres in Mirya Cell, 10 acres in Kyetegya Cell and government school in Kikonya Cell has been also affected.

The LC2 Chairperson decries that over 300 residents in Kisabau Cell have been affected and they have nowhere to go thus appealing for government intervention.

According to Ujigi, about 35 residents including him received land titles way back in 2004.
Benjamin Byarugaba, 62, who is at the risk of losing about 15 acres of land said that he acquired this piece of land in 1969 and NFA boundaries were well demarcated thus wondered the installation of mark stones on the community land without involving the locals.

He said recently they had a meeting with NFA officials so that they can demarcate their boundaries in absence of the community members but received a phone call that they had installed mark stones in his land.

Byarugaba alleges that those installing mark stones are land grabbers thus appealing for government intervention. He

Release our colleagues, Masindi Muslims ask Museven.

Muslims in Masindi, have asked President Yoweri Museveni to release Muslim prisoners, particularly those who have been incarcerated without trial.

This plea was made during Eid prayers at Masjid Taqwa mosque in Masindi, where Muslim clerics expressed their pain and concern for their colleagues who are suffering in prison.

Sheikh Sekide Habibu emphasized that many Muslims have been arrested and detained for long periods without being produced in court for trial. He appealed to President Museveni to use his powers to pardon these individuals and allow them to reunite with their families.

Sheikh Yahaya Sozi, chairperson of the Masindi Muslim community, also spoke out against the high number of Muslims in prison, urging the President to pardon those who have been incarcerated for extended periods.

" we love and support you President Museveni as parent we as you to pardon our colleagues or produce them to court for trial and we have them sentenced other than keeping them in prisons when they dont know their fate ." Says sheik Yahaya .

Open letter to Ronald Akugizibwe Aled, the Buruli County MP

As the Greater Masindi Media Fraternity, we are fed up with your weird, unethical behavior against the journalists for refusing to cover your activities or give you space in their news bulletin.

On many occasions, you have reported presenters and news reporters to their managers or directors, demanding their sacking for not including you in their news bulletin.

Kindly take note that not everyone who speaks at the event makes news, and some stories are pitched to their editor depending on their policy in the news room.

Not anyone who speaks at the event makes news remember journalists pitch stories to their editors before they go to events, depending on the media house’s policy.

Before Radio Kitara closed, you reported two presenters to the manager, claiming that they had talked about a story not in your favor, and you prayed for their sacking, but the manager handled the matter professionally.

Again, you went to Radio 7 management and reported a reporter for not including you in the story since you were at the same event. To the worst, you demanded his sacking, but again, the management handled the matter professionally.

Just recently, you went to BBS Radio and reported a presenter to his bosses for speaking about you on-air, but not in favor.

Since that wasn’t enough, recently you went ahead and approached the proprietor of Kings FM, demanding the sacking of a presenter for not airing your stories, but the management handled it professionally.

I would like to thank the management of radio stations in Masindi for handling such matters professionally and not adhering to the pressure of ill-intentioned politicians in the district.

We are fed up with your pressure, threats, and intimidations, and you should know that you are what you are because of the media. Learn how to work with us.

Yours

Steven Wandera, President of the of the Greater Masindi Media Practitioners Association (GMEPA),
