UPDATE: Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, has reportedly been killed in Israeli and U.S. airstrikes, according to a senior Israeli official who spoke to Reuters.

In a constitutional exercise of his powers, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni granted a pardon to Hajji Muhammad Ssebufu yesterday, as per an instrument dated February 21, 2026. Muhammad Ssebufu, proprietor of Pine Car Bond in Kampala, had been convicted in 2019 for the kidnap, aggravated robbery, and murder of a client, Betty Donah Katusabe. Initially, he was sentenced to 40 years in prison, but his sentence was reduced to 18 years in 2025 following a re-evaluation of the evidence, which found the lower court's sentence to be excessively harsh.

The prime suspect in the murder of Pamela Tumwebaze, Director of Student Affairs at Uganda Christian University, has been apprehended by police. Dak Hussein Tawaiko, a former domestic worker of the deceased, is identified as the suspect. Recheal Kawala, spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Police, confirmed Tawaiko's arrest. According to the police, Tawaiko was arrested in Budaka District, where he was discovered with Tumwebaze's personal belongings, a crucial piece of evidence linking him to the crime. Investigations suggest Tumwebaze was strangled on February 11, 2026, around 2:00 am at her residence. A houseboy reportedly saw an unknown man in Tumwebaze's bedroom wearing her clothes and carrying her laptop bag. After the suspect fled, the houseboy found Tumwebaze unresponsive, and she was pronounced dead at Namirembe Church of Uganda Hospital. Tumwebaze was buried on Sunday.

Police have identified the victims of a fatal road accident that occurred on 13 February 2026 at Kibega I Village, after Sanga Town council, Kiruhura district along the Mbarara–Lyantonde Highway.

According to Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi Region Police spokesperson, the crash happened at about 6:30 p.m. and involved two vehicles: a white Toyota Hiace (UBQ 016U) and a Mercedes-Benz Actros trailer (KDQ 668L/ZH 5133).

The identified victims are:

Victor Musinguzi, 30, from Ibanda District, Otaki Charles, 49, from Oyam District, Abdu Sserugo, from Nsangi, Wakiso District, Godfrey Lukyamuzi, from Kinoni, Lwengo District, the driver of the Toyota Hiace

The others are Kitone Julius, from Rakai District, a journalist with Next Media, Ajidra Bosco, from Maracha District, Onesmus Agaba, 45 and one additional victim whose identity has not yet been established

Preliminary investigations indicate that the Toyota Hiace, which was travelling from Mbarara to Lyantonde, attempted to overtake at a corner and collided head-on with the oncoming trailer travelling in the opposite direction.

Police say investigations into the crash are ongoing.
