Music analyst Brady Sparks has criticized Ray G’s Checkmate EP, calling it a “view-once” project that lacks listener appeal.

He says the collaborations with Bruce Melodie (Hama) and Elijah Kitaka (Every Day) didn’t meet expectations, as RAY G was pushed into unfamiliar styles that didn’t suit him.

Sparks believes Ray should have led the collaborations with his signature sound, adding that even with promotion, the songs are unlikely to become hits.

Top 5 Trending Artists in Western Uganda (Currently, in Order) 📌

5. TRUTH 256
Truth earns this spot mainly because of the momentum from his recent concert and the inactivity of other artists. After releasing My Rules featuring Ray G and pulling off a successful show, he went quiet — and so did the buzz. He’s trending, but just barely hanging on.

4. RAY G
Despite being Western Uganda's undisputed number one, the trends currently place Ray G at number four. His latest EP Checkmate, featuring the track Hama with Bruce Melodie, hasn't met the hype. He’s still in the game, but needs a breakout hit to reclaim full attention.

3. T-Paul 256
The "Kakoba Boy" is keeping his name alive with upcoming plans and recent music. His song Maridadi continues to trend, and his anticipated Kampala concert at Lugogo Cricket Oval on August 22nd is helping maintain his visibility.

2. OMEGA 256 official
Omega 256 is riding a wave of success thanks to consistent bookings and well-performing projects this year. With an upcoming concert that’s becoming a daily topic of discussion, she remains one of the most talked-about artists in the region.

1. Heli Baibe
Hailing from Kasese, Heli Baibe is the top trending artist in Western Uganda right now. Her steady music releases and investment in her craft — especially her latest collaboration with Kataleua and Kandle — have kept her name at the forefront of the industry.
