This morning, I was honoured to be sworn in as a Member of the National Governing Council of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM), representing the Opposition.

I accept this responsibility with humility and a clear commitment to serve Uganda and contribute to strengthening good governance, accountability, democratic participation and inclusive national development.

The African Peer Review Mechanism is an African Union initiative through which participating countries voluntarily assess their governance and development practices, identify gaps and share experiences and best practices. Its work covers areas including democracy and political governance, economic governance, corporate governance and socio-economic development.

As an Opposition representative, I believe our participation in such institutions must ensure that all voices are heard, including those of citizens, civil society and political actors outside government.

I look forward to contributing constructively to a process that promotes transparency, accountability, respect for democratic institutions, the rule of law and better governance.

This is not simply a position. It is a responsibility to represent, to listen, to question constructively and to help advance a better Uganda.

DAY 2 | BULAMBULI

Today, I joined the ICT Committee to continue our oversight of NITA-U projects under the Uganda Digital Acceleration Project (UDAP), at the Bulambuli District Local Government quarters.

We are assessing progress and implementation to ensure that investments in digital infrastructure translate into better connectivity, digital services and opportunities for our communities.

Digital transformation must reach every Ugandan.

Today, together with the ICT Committee, we began our oversight of NITA-U projects across Eastern Uganda under the Uganda Digital Acceleration Project (UDAP).

We are visiting Mayuge, Jinja, Busia, Namayingo, Tororo and the Karamoja sub-region to assess the implementation of the National Backbone Infrastructure (NBI).

Despite the cables and infrastructure being in place, many districts still face slow and unreliable internet, while paying NITA-U in US dollars for connectivity.

We are in Busia, heading to Mbale, asking the right questions and ensuring that government investment delivers value to Ugandans.

Today, I joined the ICT Committee on a field visit to assess and oversee the work being undertaken by NITA-U, with particular focus on the National Backbone Infrastructure (NBI).

We are on the ground to understand the progress, assess the impact of these investments, and ensure that public resources are delivering the digital infrastructure Uganda needs.

Today, I am attending the Public Accounts Committee (Central) meeting as we interface with officials from the Office of the Auditor General and review the Accountant General’s Report.

These engagements are important in strengthening oversight, promoting accountability in the management of public resources, and ensuring that every public institution is held to the highest standards of financial responsibility.

Yesterday, we had a meaningful get-together with fellow NUP female MPs, hosted and chaired by our NUP Women’s League Chairperson, Hon. Flavia Kalule Nabagabe.

We reflected on the challenges we face as women leaders, lessons from the past elections, serving our constituents effectively, balancing leadership with family life, and how we can become stronger and more effective women leaders in the Opposition.

These conversations remind us that leadership is not a journey we have to walk alone. By supporting, learning from and strengthening one another, we can better serve our people and advance the cause of inclusive leadership.
