Mike Musisi Musoke, also known as Musisi Mike, left a profound legacy in Ugandan journalism through his extensive mentoring of young reporters, particularly in the Greater Mukono region. Over his 40-year career, which included stints at major outlets like Uganda Television (UTV), New Vision, WBS Television, Daily Monitor, Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC), and Radio One, he transitioned in his later years to contributing to Kyaggwe TV. There, he not only continued reporting but also actively guided emerging journalists, emphasizing precision in language, ethical storytelling, and professional excellence.
His mentoring style was hands-on and patient, often involving detailed script corrections to refine writing and vocabulary. Colleagues noted that he treated every story with gravity, instilling in mentees the belief that "words carried responsibility." Henry Nsubuga, a New Vision correspondent, highlighted this in a tribute: "His rich English vocabulary and polished writing style became his signature. Many young reporters in Mukono credit him for mentoring them, correcting their scripts with patience and challenging them to pursue excellence. This approach helped shape the skills of numerous journalists, who credited him with building their confidence and commitment to high standards.
The impact was especially felt in Mukono's media landscape, where his guidance inspired a generation to view journalism as a craft of integrity and eloquence. Tributes following his passing, including a vigil at his home in NSAMBWE, featured stories from those he mentored, underscoring how he challenged them to elevate their work regardless of experience level. He will be laid to rest tomorrow in maseke Nkokonjeru
