Purify our heart of any duplicity or secret sin. Cleanse our conscience and empower us to be an example of your grace and holiness as we rest. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

Update: More than 2,000 faithful, clergy, and religious from around the world gathered yesterday for the ordination and installation of Father Simon Peter Engurait as the sixth bishop of Houma-Thibodaux, while thousands more joined online. The historic liturgy blended four choirs, five languages, and Ugandan cultural practices, symbolically uniting Bishop Engurait’s homeland of Uganda with his new spiritual home in Louisiana. The vibrant celebration reflected both the universality of the Church and the unique traditions that shaped the bishop’s journey of faith.

In his first remarks as bishop, Simon Peter Engurait spoke with gratitude and humility, emphasizing his commitment to serve as a shepherd close to his people. “A bishop is not meant to be a distant administrator, but rather a pastor who walks among his people,” he said, promising a ministry rooted in presence, compassion, and service to those most in need. Expressing his desire to remain close to Christ and his flock, Bishop Engurait pledged to accompany families and parishes in their joys and sorrows, carrying their burdens with gentleness and humility.
