Panyimur Sub-county Council may face challenges approving its 2026/2027 financial year budget after the suspension of two executive committee members by Chairperson Justin Omirambe during the budget lay session.

The move leaves only the Chairperson and Vice Chairperson Joice Akumu on the executive, raising concerns about whether the council will meet the required quorum to review and recommend the budget.

Council Speaker Denis Ocakuwun says the situation could affect the budget approval process, while officials say consultations are ongoing to ensure government services continue without disruption.

At least 100 Christians are set to travel to Murchison Falls National Park tomorrow for a special Mass at Pakuba ahead of Omach Day celebrations on 6th March.

Church leaders say the pilgrimage marks final spiritual preparations for commemorating the late cultural leader Omach, who welcomed early missionaries to the area.

The main celebration will be presided over by the Bishop of Lira, with Olepi Deanery leading the liturgy.

Meanwhile, at Omach Chapel in Pakech Jukaal Village, cleaning and renovation works are ongoing. This year’s theme is “Pilgrims of Hope Now Reached by the Living Bread” (Gospel of John 6:61).

Residents of Kitawe West and neighboring villages are urging authorities to fence off a local dam at Kitawe Swamp, warning it’s a danger to citizens and livestock.
Local leaders say the dam has already claimed at least three lives. Villagers call for separate access points for humans and animals to prevent more tragedies.
Built in early 2000, the dam serves five villages: Kitawe West, Kitawe East, Kambitatu A & B, and Ayila. Last year, two children from the same family drowned at the site.
💬 Residents demand urgent action before more lives are lost.

The fire broke out on Monday afternoon and spread rapidly due to strong winds, burning cash, food, mattresses, and other household items. Survivors are now sheltering with neighbours, while some families including children are sleeping outdoors.

Voting across Pakwach District opened late this morning after polling officials and biometric machine operators were redeployed at the last minute, disrupting electoral activities.

By 8:00 a.m., several polling stations, including Wange-Lei A and Themango, had not opened. Officials were stranded after discovering they had been transferred between stations, causing confusion. The Pakwach Town Council Electoral Supervisor was unavailable for comment.

However, Panyimur Town Council Electronic Supervisor Collins Kumakech says polling officials and machine operators from Panyimur were swapped with those from Dei Sub-county, delaying the opening of polling stations.

At least 4,856 registered voters in Ragem Sub-county, Pakwach District, will not cast their ballots in the general elections scheduled for Wednesday, February 4, 2026, after all elective positions at the sub-county level were filled unopposed.

Pakwach District has seen a major leadership shake-up, with voters electing _mostly new figures_for the positions of _Directly Elected councilors_ across the district. Out of nine lower local governments, only two incumbents, _Oyikuru Victor_ (Alwi) and _Edward Pacutho_ (Wadlai), retained their seats.

In the remaining sub-counties and Pakwach Town Council, new councilors for the positions were elected, while voters in Panyimur Town Council are still waiting to choose between _Arule_ and _Obembu_ after elections were suspended due to ballot photo errors. Chairperson _Ronald Ojinda_ says the outcome reflects trends seen during party primaries.

The results mean the incoming district council will include both _NRM and independent_ members, unlike the outgoing council which was _entirely NRM_

Edward Pachutho Mweze has been declared the winner of the Wadlai Sub-county District Councilor race after a close contest.

His rival, Nassur Hassan, alleged vote-counting irregularities at two polling stations and called for a recount.

Returning Officer Sarah Nabukeera said results must first be declared before any recount request is formally made.

Official results show Pachutho with 1,628 votes against Nassur’s 1,587. Pachutho says he is open to a recount
