Parents of Kotido Secondary School are concerned about the mass expulsion of female students due to teenage pregnancies.

The Head Teacher, Emmanuel Lokedi, suspended nine students indefinitely for being pregnant. It followed a compulsory pregnancy test sanctioned by the school administration. School sources said a fetus was also dumped in a girls’ bathroom.

Eight girls in S.2 and one in S.6 were found pregnant.

Charles Ocaya, a parent at the school, expressed disappointment, pointing fingers at the school administration for failing to impart discipline among the students.

He said that the administration has continuously failed to address the issues of discipline, citing incidents of students escaping to the town to drink alcohol, especially during weekends.

Kenyan Ruth Chepngetich, current women’s marathon world record holder, has been provisionally suspended by the Athletics Integrity Unit for testing positive for a banned substance. Chepngetich made history by breaking the marathon world record at the 2024 Chicago Marathon. The suspension now places her athletic achievements under scrutiny as investigations continue.

HEALTH:

All newly born babies countrywide will soon be subjected to yet another vaccine, after the Ministry of Health announced plans to roll out the hepatitis B jab at all health facilities offering immunization services.

Speaking at a press conference , Dr Ronny Bahatungire, the Commissioner for Clinical Services in the ministry, revealed that the national rollout scheduled for August will target both new babies born at the hospital and those that are delivered outside health facilities but brought in not later than 24 hours after birth.

Jowy Landa has responded critically to Spice Diana’s recent remarks that established musicians don’t necessarily need hit songs to remain relevant in the industry.

Spice Diana suggested that once an artist is well-established and consistent, chart-topping tracks may not be essential for maintaining their career.

Jowy however refutes and in her view, hit songs maintain an artist's relevance.

Police in Mukono have arrested 37-year-old Specioza Kayaga for allegedly killing her husband, Charles Sebulime, 42, during a domestic altercation in Namuyenje village. Investigations reveal Sebulime hit Kayaga with a bottle during a dispute over her drinking.
She reportedly retaliated by stabbing him in the neck with a broken beer bottle. Sebulime died at the scene. Kayaga remains in custody as inquiries continue.

Police in Mbarara City have arrested Onesmus Nuwamanya, also known as "Black," a prime suspect in the brutal murder of Scovia Kyomugisha, 42, and her three-year-old daughter, Gift Amumpaire.The two victims were reportedly killed in the early hours of Sunday morning inside their rented room located at Alliance Trading Centre, Kakoba Central Cell, Kakoba Ward in Mbarara City.

According to SP Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi Region Police spokesperson, the suspect is currently being held at Mbarara Central Police Station.

Police in Rukungiri District arrested one suspect and are hunting for another one who is on the run in connection with the alleged assault of a 45 year old man identified as Habert Musinguzi a resident of Isherero village in Kyatoko Ward in Eastern Division of Rukungiri Municipality.

Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate has confirmed the incident that took place in Isherero village in Kyatoko Ward where the victim died instantly.

Maate toldJournalists that the suspect arrested is 45 year old Byamukama John a resident of Nyakashaka village also in Kyatoko Ward and are now hunting for 38 year old Nuwamanya Luke also a resident of Isherero village who is on the run.
