The Aberdeen City Council on Monday approved the $330,000 purchase of the former nursing building from the Presentation Sisters on the former Presentation College campus. Future plans for the building include a partnership between Southeast Technical College and the Aberdeen Area Senior Center.

Money is being raised for a Mina man who lost his right hand in a fireworks accident over the holiday weekend. Danny Steger was seriously injured on Thursday, July 3, according to social media posts from Wakeside Bar & Grill. A GoFundMe page titled “Danny’s Road to Recovery” has been set up by his daughter, Aleah Kadlec, to help with medical expenses. According to the fundraiser, Steger’s right hand and part of a finger on his left hand were amputated, and he also suffered additional injuries.

Building permits in Aberdeen are slightly up from last year, with their value surging by over $94 million. The boost comes from one of the city's biggest projects ever on a major upgrade to the wastewater reclamation plant. City officials say it’s a key step toward expanding water capacity and driving economic growth.

Local ambulance services in South Dakota have used state grants to purchase life-saving equipment, including motorized cots, emergency training dummies and EMT training tools. The $7.5 million in funding came from federal COVID-19 relief dollars. Lawmakers discussed the impact of the grants last week at the first meeting of the Legislature’s EMS Interim Committee in Pierre.

A North Dakota-based auto repair business has opened its third location, this one in Aberdeen. Lincoln Repair opened Tuesday, July 1, at 715 Sixth Ave. S.E., with Kyle Hoeltzner serving as general manager and part owner. He partnered with Josh Gendron and Lee Friese to bring the shop to Aberdeen. The team aims to offer the same level of care to customers as they do to vehicles, offering loaner cars, rides and financing options.
