UPDATE TWO SHOT IN SOUTHERN PINES OVERNIGHT

** Southern Pines Police Department Investigating Shooting Incident **

Southern Pines, N.C. — At approximately 12:50 a.m. on today's date, the Southern Pines Police Department received a report of shots fired in the area of Rothney Avenue and Haines Court.

Responding officers determined that two adult male victims had sustained gunshot wounds. Both individuals were transported to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in privately owned vehicles prior to the arrival of law enforcement personnel.

Officers from the Southern Pines Police Department's Patrol and Investigations Divisions responded to the scene and encountered a large crowd gathered near the location of the shooting, where a private party had been taking place.

Investigators recovered multiple shell casings, which were collected and processed as evidence. Members of the Investigations Division also responded to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital to interview the victims, both of whom were determined to have sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators continue to work diligently to gather additional information and identify potential witnesses. At this time, no arrests have been made, and there is no indication of an ongoing threat to the community related to this incident.

Anyone with information regarding this case is encouraged to contact the Southern Pines Police Department at (910) 692-7031 or the SPPD Tip Line at (910) 693-4110. Individuals providing information may remain anonymous.

POLICE RESPOND TO REPORT OF POSSIBLE SHOOTING IN SP OVERNIGHT

Emergency responders were dispatched to the intersection of Rothney Avenue and Richards Street in Southern Pines just before 1:00 am Saturday.

The initial call reported shots fired with one person possibly struck by gunfire.

There was a large law enforcement presence in the area primarily due to the large crowd that had gathered almost immediately.

The crowd stayed under control with no problems visible while law enforcement investigated a large scene.

According to law enforcement officials, there was not a victim at the location when officers arrived, however there were reports from FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst of a victim with gunshot wounds who had arrived at the hospital by private vehicle shortly after this incident occured.

Police blocked off a large area with crime scene tape while officers conducted their investigation.

Officers began marking a large number of bullet casings and other evidence on the ground with evidence cards throughout the yard of one home here.

This is an active investigation as of this report with Officers and Detectives working the scene and speaking with possible witnesses.

Responding tonight included Southern Pines Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, and the Southern Pines Police Department.

This is a developing story with more details to come.
