RO is the only radio station in Grays Harbor to ever be nominated for Excellence In Community Broadcasting by the National Association Of Broadcasters…two years in a row! The next station in the group’s lineup was born in 1971 when Dale Gunderson started KDUX in Ocean Shores, Wash., with a “beautiful music” format. KDUX was moved to Aberdeen and became a rock station in the late 1970s. It continues it’s success as a the dominate Classic Rock format today as "The Rock of the Coast". In a world of bland satellite music formats, KDUX is the ONLY radio station on the coast to feature local air personalities 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The two stations were purchased by Pioneer Broadcasting, who operated KXRO as an adult contemporary station and KDUX as a rock station for several years until their purchase by Morris Communications in December 1998. Morris Communications added KIX 95.3 (KXXK), “The Harbor’s New Country station,” and KWOK, ESPN Sports Radio 1490 in April 2001, establishing Gray’s Harbor Radio Group as the entity it is today. KIX is the areas only local Country station providing the The Harbor’s New Country with Live and Local personalities. We live and work in Grays Harbor and Pacific County…and we love it!

The sirens you’re hearing this morning are the 27th annual Shop With a Cop.

Schools in Grays Harbor select children who they find are deserving of the opportunity to get extra assistance for holiday shopping.

According to local police it’s an opportunity to have an interaction with kids that’s positive so that they don’t see law enforcement in a negative light, but they realize that cops are people too.

First started in 1999, the tradition features police officers from departments throughout the area teaming with Grays Harbor children to take them shopping for Christmas presents for themselves and their families.

Children in the program will be given a gift card for Walmart to do shopping with the officers.

This Saturday Dec. 6th before shopping, officers and the children will have breakfast at the Aberdeen High School with Santa Claus and then get into the vehicles with their lights and sirens on moving through downtown around 8am and onto Walmart.

The event traditionally features dozens of children and officers, traveling slowly through the area in vehicles from numerous local law enforcement and other first responder agencies.

Residents are encouraged to stand on the sidewalks and in front of businesses to wave to the children as they travel by.

*Special Note: KXRO receives several calls and messages every year concerned about the loud police sirens. Do not be alarmed, the lights and sirens are part of the celebration for the kids. Shop with a Cop will be taking place from approximately 6am to 8 am.

UPDATE: As of this morning, we are back closer to regular patient levels and patients visiting the Emergency Department, should experience typical wait times. Thank you for your understanding and support.

Dear Community, it is happening again. We currently have every properly staffed bed full at the hospital, with 4 more patients waiting for beds in the Emergency Department and 7 who cannot be discharged, but have nowhere else to go. This means longer wait times in the ED and treating people in our triage area when possible. There is no single driving cause. As of this morning, we had zero flu and only one COVID.

Please know that we are getting much closer to opening our 2nd floor. We don't have a clear timeline, but things are finally recovering from the pandemic job market enough that it is feasible. We know that doesn't solve things in the moment, but we are not ignoring the reality of the needs of our community.

Please be safe, and do your best to stay healthy.
