Hardin County, Texas, in SE Texas
A group of five men pose on the front porch of a Rio Bravo Oil Co. bungalow at Saratoga, Texas. Saratoga lies in Hardin County in southeast Texas. The words “Visit Saratoga '09” is penned across the top and the image seems as if it could be a printed reproduction, thus suggesting that this might have been a postcard image, probably created to serve marketing purposes. The Rio Bravo Oil Company was organized in 1903 to develop the Southern Pacific Railroad's oil lands in Texas. PHOTO COURTESY OF THE PETROLEUM MUSEUM.

Muddy streets were a common nuisance in early day Texas, especially in the small towns. Seen here is a Desdemona street lined with stores and other buildings. The lane is crowded with early model automobiles. Wooden derricks are visible in the background. Documentation on image reads, "Desdemona, Texas, 9/23/1919. Norris." Situated in southeastern Eastland County, Desdemona was founded in 1860 as a frontier town. With the discovery nearby of oil in September 1918, one year before this picture was taken, the village became a boomtown in the truest sense, complete with crowded conditions and lawlessness, the latter being cured by the arrival of Texas Rangers in 1920. "Hog Town" was the name the town bore, given it by oilfield people. PHOTO COURTESY OF THE PETROLEUM MUSEUM.

What is PBOG? It’s a magazine.

Permian Basin Oil & Gas Magazine is the only monthly publication that completely saturates the oil & gas industry in the Permian Basin.

We at Permian Basin Oil & Gas magazine published out first issue in September 2006, through affiliation with the Permian Basin Petroleum Association (PBPA). We continue to serve the association today. PBOG, as it’s known to those of us who work with it daily, brings relevant stories and timely information to the folks in the oil and gas industry.

Permian Basin Oil & Gas magazine (or PBOG as we lovingly refer to it) is published monthly by Zachry Publications, LP which also publishes the Burmass Oil & Gas Directory.

Do you have a riveting local story to share? Email us! We are always looking for new ideas.
