Prescribed burn gets underway in Ojo Sarco, some of you may have spotted the smoke already:
CREWS BEGIN OJO SARCO PRESCRIBED FIRE
After a test fire to evaluate the safety and productivity of burning within current conditions, fire crews are continuing with ignitions on the Ojo Sarco Prescribed Fire today. This morning, they are focusing on areas adjacent to the Ojo Sarco neighborhood and County Road 73.
Forest Service crews are joined by the Ojo Sarco Volunteer Fire Department, Truchas Volunteer Fire Department, Latir Volunteer Fire Department, Picuris Pueblo, Taos Pueblo and the All-Hands, All-Lands Crew, a collaborative effort lead by the Forest Stewards Guild and The Nature Conservancy of New Mexico.
An uncrewed aerial system, or drone, is also on scene to monitor and conduct aerial ignitions.
