Sam B. Cooked is such a kind old rooster that he is peacefully babysitting Junie’s little ones while everyone has free range time. It’s cute to hear him “tidbitting” - calling them over for little treats from time to time. Sweet boy.

Poor little Daffodil- her first egg had no shell. There are 6 Starlight Green Eggers in that coop. There were 4 eggs and then this sad little mess. On the plus side that means that all but one laid today and they are only 20 weeks old. (Meanwhile I have 30 week old Ameraucanas still free loading…) I will have to keep an eye on Daffy but this is probably just a one time issue with a new baby. She seems fine.

I have to say these starlight green eggers may be feral and flighty as can be, but they are serious about their egg laying. Two mornings in a row, as soon as the coop door opened one ran to the box. And this may be the only coop where the next one up doesn’t just sit and scream for the same nesting box - despite there being multiple available. Little Daisy actually gave in and chose the upper level - without any squawking. They mean business….

It’s a record day. Looks like we are back in the egg business. 😃The beauty of spring chicks is you get winter eggs. The older girls are starting to shut down for the season but we are overrun with little pullets just starting out. Sizes are getting better too.

More new layers. The tiny two in the top row are from the Starlight Green Eggers. One is green but the other is definitely blue. But I also got a mystery big green from the Taj Mahal coop. No clue who laid that. I need nesting box cameras. 😂
