Wonderful conversation with Vivian Birchall about . We look back and reflect on the struggles and oppression in history and move forward with intentionality and reform. As a legislator, I am proud to work with many incredible Black Americans who are taking leadership roles locally and statewide. In the past two years, I have had the honor of interviewing influential Black leaders across the Commonwealth, as part of my Uplifting Voices series! We discussed experiences and struggles they faced caused by structural and systemic racism in Massachusetts.

Last week, I was pleased to interview Andrea Becerra, Director of Sustainability for the Town of Acton, Massachusetts. Thank you Acton TV for having us on the February issue of Half Hour on the Hill.

As an Acton resident, I am delighted to see the sustainability effort that is being executed at a local level. Under Andrea’s leadership, Acton aims to reach net zero emissions by 2030 - 10 years ahead of the state’s goal! Grateful for Andrea's bold and effective climate action plan for our town.

Controlling whether we are happy is hard. But what can we control? How can we get to a better place when we're struggling? What are some healthy habits for sustainable well-being? How can we best support our friends and family when they are struggling?

Join us virtually for Turning Struggle to Strength: Practical Strategies to Build Resilience on Monday, November 15th to hear from renowned adolescent psychiatrist, Dr. John Campo of Johns Hopkins Medicine, as he shares practical strategies for building resilience. Although specifically geared towards adolescents and their parents, much of the advice will be applicable to all ages. It takes all of us to build resiliency as a community.

Bring your questions! The 45 minute presentation will be followed by a question and answer segment. Acton-Boxborough Regional School District Director of Special Projects Andrew Shen and Acton TV producer Vivian Kobusingye Birchall will facilitate the Q&A. We will provide Mandarin to English translation for the Q&A session.

Dr. Campo is the Leonard and Helen R. Stulman Professor and Director of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Johns Hopkins University and VP of Psychiatric Services at the Kennedy Krieger Institute. He has been honored with the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Simon Wile Leadership in Consultation Award, and the National Alliance on Mental Illness Exemplary Psychiatrist Award, and has been on the America’s Top Doctors list for 18 years. His interests include su***de prevention, mental health services research, collaborative care for mental disorder in general medical settings, and management of functional somatic symptoms.

The event is organized by Acton-Boxborough United Way in partnership with AB Cares.
