With risers for the NU.TRON, a scissor lift, and ’s total disregard for heights, we’re dialing in the perfect overhead shot.

What you’re seeing is the Dedo DPB70 (nicknamed the “Big Light” for a reason). It’s known for throwing a powerful, focused beam with minimal spill.

On this shoot, we used the Dedo to replicate a massive shaft of sunlight, like what you’d see pouring through a cathedral window into a dim, vast space. That single beam grounded the scene in realism, giving scale and emotion to a virtual hotel lobby built entirely in Unreal Engine.

We shaped the beam with modifiers and haze, blending physical light with digital architecture to create an image that felt cinematic, atmospheric, and believable, all captured in-camera.

Just your standard overnight shoot… with a quick basement break for a tornado watch.

The crew kept sharp, the coffee kept flowing (thank you ), and the whole set felt like it was pulled from another era — courtesy of our incredible art department.

The storm passed, but the momentum never did.

For this shoot with Oak Street Health, we could have used a traditional c*c wall, but when you have access to a space like ours, why not take it to the next level?

Our created a seamless, infinity clean sweep— a sleek, boundless white environment that kept the focus exactly where it should be: on the talent. The result? A crisp, elevated look and an unforgettable experience.

The NU.TRON by has been our latest upgrade in virtual production tech for our studio. Its intentional design makes handheld camera work weightless and shake-free. With perfect balancing, it feels natural and easy to use, giving operators total control and creative freedom.

Mike Colby is an invaluable member of our team. Humble and hardworking, he joined IDEOLOGY in 2023 as a Senior Editor + Colorist, bringing a deep well of expertise spanning creative directing, DOP work, editing, gaffing, motion graphics, compositing, color correction, and more.

Mike’s passion and creativity extend far beyond the workplace. He roasts his own coffee beans, crafts sourdough bread and homemade jam, bakes, composes music, plays multiple instruments, and even scores films.

Dependable, talented, and grounded, Mike is the kind of person you can always count on, and we’re incredibly fortunate to have him as part of the IDEOLOGY family!
