Surah Al-Baqarah, Ayah 185

All praise is due to Allah. We praise Him, seek His help, and ask for His forgiveness. We seek refuge in Allah from the evil within ourselves and from our bad deeds. Whomsoever Allah guides, none can misguide, and whomsoever He leaves astray, none can guide.

Servants of Allah, Allah says: “The month of Ramadan is the one in which the Qur’an was revealed as guidance for mankind…” This ayah reminds us that Ramadan is not only a month of fasting, but a month of the Qur’an. The honor of Ramadan comes from revelation, guidance, and clarity between truth and falsehood.

Allah made fasting obligatory, yet He paired obligation with mercy. The sick and the traveler are given ease, teaching us that Islam is not hardship, but compassion and balance. Worship is meant to purify our hearts, not break our bodies.

The goal of Ramadan is clear: to complete the days, glorify Allah for His guidance, and grow in gratitude. May Allah make us people of the Qur’an and allow Ramadan to change our hearts.

Indeed Allah commands justice and goodness… and Allah knows best.

Juz 2 Overview
• Surah: Al-Baqarah
• Verses: 104–141
• Place of revelation: Madinah
• Nickname: “The Cow” (from the famous story later in the surah)

🌟 Main Themes

1. True Faith vs. Inherited Identity

This section addresses Jews and Christians, correcting misunderstandings about religious identity. The Qur’an emphasizes that:
• Faith is not about labels or ancestry
• True religion is submission to Allah alone

👉 This is where Prophet Abraham (Ibrahim) is highlighted as the model believer.

2. Abraham (Ibrahim) as a Hanif

A major focus is that Abraham:
• Was neither Jewish nor Christian
• Was a Hanif — someone who worships Allah alone, free from shirk (associating partners)

📌 Key verse (2:135):

“Abraham was neither a Jew nor a Christian; rather, he was a monotheistic Muslim.”

This verse is central to the message of Juz 2.

3. Building the Kaaba

The juz recounts:
• Abraham and his son Ishmael (Ismail) building the Kaaba
• Their humility and obedience while doing so
• The Kaaba as a symbol of pure monotheism, not cultural ownership

4. Shift of Religious Authority

Allah makes it clear that:
• Leadership and divine favor come through obedience, not lineage
• The Muslim community is being established as a continuation of Abraham’s monotheistic mission

🧠 Key Concepts Explained
• Hanif: Someone who sincerely believes in Allah alone and rejects all forms of idolatry
• Monotheism (Tawheed): Belief in the absolute oneness and uniqueness of Allah

💡 Big Picture Takeaway

Juz 2 teaches that Islam is not a new religion — it is the original faith of Abraham.
It calls people back to:
• Pure belief
• Sincere worship
• Unity under one God

Juz 1 (Surah Al-Baqarah: Verses 40-103)

This verses teaches that Allah’s blessings require patience, gratitude, and obedience.

The Children of Israel were given many favors by Allah—guidance, food, and miracles—but they complained, disobeyed, and followed their desires (like worshipping the golden calf or asking for different food). Because of this, they faced consequences and hardship.

The highlighted message, “Allah is with the patient” (2:153), shows that patience is the key lesson of Juz 1. The picture also reminds us that:
• Wanting worldly things over Allah’s commands leads to loss
• Magic and harm only happen with Allah’s permission
• True success comes from trusting Allah and staying patient

Main theme:
👉 Blessings + patience = Allah’s help
👉 Disobedience and complaints lead to regret

Juz 1 (Surah Al-Baqarah 21–39)

This section calls people to worship Allah alone as the Creator. It challenges those who doubt the Qur’an, promises Paradise for believers, and warns disbelievers. It then presents the story of Adam (AS) and the beginning of humanity.

Allah creates Adam from clay and teaches him knowledge. The angels obey Allah’s command to prostrate, but Iblis refuses out of pride. Adam and Hawwa live freely in Paradise with one restriction. After eating from the forbidden tree, they repent, and Allah accepts their repentance but sends them to Earth. Allah promises guidance, and success depends on following it.

Key themes: creation, free will, repentance, mercy, and divine guidance.

Highlighted verse (2:35):
“O Adam, live with your wife in Paradise and eat from wherever you wish…”
A reminder of Allah’s generosity before the test.

Lessons from Juz 1: Surah Al-Fātiḥah

Surah Al-Fātiḥah is the heart of the Qur’an and the foundation of every prayer. Its main theme is worship, du‘ā’, and complete submission to Allah.

The surah begins by teaching us who Allah is—Lord of all worlds, Most Merciful, and Master of the Day of Judgment. Knowing Allah is the basis of sincere prayer.

The central message is found in Āyah 5:

“You alone we worship, and You alone we ask for help.”

This verse defines our relationship with Allah. “You alone we worship” affirms pure tawḥīd—that all acts of worship belong only to Him. “You alone we ask for help” reminds us that we are fully dependent on Allah, even in our worship and daily struggles.

Al-Fātiḥah then becomes a du‘ā’ for guidance: “Guide us to the straight path.” This shows that guidance is an ongoing need, not a one-time request.

By reciting Al-Fātiḥah in every rak‘ah, we renew our submission, humility, and reliance on Allah—recognizing that success comes only through worshipping Him and trusting Him completely.
