Happy holidays!!!❄️

Can you believe it’s already that time of the year again. You know…when you realize you literally have a few weeks left to find gifts for everyone??

If you're anything like me, you've been spending every night wracking my brain for ideas for the best gift ever: something unique and thoughtful that I KNOW my loved one will adore, but it can't be too similar to last year's gift or common enough that someone else might have bought them the same thing.

Just the other day, I found something extremely cool and helpful in my search!! Alexis Neuman who is behind the .artists account on Instagram published a link to this year's edition of the Disabled Creators To Buy From This Holiday Season List, which is apparently project they contribute to every year based on contributor submissions. This year's list features over 150 creators and small businesses who are selling work this holiday season.

As you can see in the photo I attached, the document includes a whole directory of diverse categories for buyers to browse, so there's guaranteed to be an awesome gift for just about anybody you're shopping for!

More info about the backstory for this annual list can be found on their instagram and the direct link is displayed in the Linktree in OP's instagram bio.

For convenience, I will include a direct link where you can access the list via Google Doc and make your purchases here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1V8TLnqoh5hwGehrI6wKeSBlngph8fI11TWjWfy70CqI/edit?usp=sharing

I encourage you to check the organizer's instagram .artists for further info about the event. You should definitely visit the linktree listed in their bio too. It offers multiple options to help out this event.

For convenience, I can provide that link right here in this post: https://tr.ee/P1MnHmPYaV

Feel free to spread the word about this list to anyone else you know is shopping for the holiday season this year or next! I will definitely be taking a look through the directory and will probably end up purchasing more than one gift!!

I present to you all: Rachel Mass’s Massive Guide to Mental Health aka a glorified bedazzled journal I put together for myself with some therapy worksheets and exercises mixed along with mood and sleep trackers and miscellaneous good stuff like that!

You would be surprised what you can accomplish with an old binder, some construction paper, and a big plastic bag of random stickers, labels, rhinestones, and other little decor I bought on clearance back when Pat Catans went out of business.

Thinking about posting some kind of follow up video about this when I have more energy, but would anyone be curious about exactly what I put in here and/or my thought process behind choosing the content and putting everything together?? Hint: it’s mostly online printables and some lined/fillable blank pages on the inside, but honestly I’m proud of how much work I put into researching and compiling my resources and the thought I put into organizing everything in a specific way

A Comic Guide to Understanding Hypervigilance Illustrated & Written by Caitlin Chang

The creator originally posted this comic on Twitter with the following text:
"hello! I wrote a comic about our brains and hypervigilance. Hypervigilance is an extreme state of sensory awareness & is a common symptom for ppl w/ anxiety or PTSD.
I wanted to make a fun way of learning basic neuroanat to make sense of our v human exps w/ hypervigilance"

The creator has since deleted or restricted tweets to private. However, they submitted this project to THE the Association of Medical Illustrators 2020 Webinar Series, and the comic is still available as an archived project on the event website.

You can view full Project Details and a Project Description for this comic on this page: https://meetingarchive.ami.org/2020/project/a-comic-guide-to-understanding-hypervigilance/

You can view and download the full comic in .PDF at the following Google Drive link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1q1mi7b16o_nwgwnK0l1Bif_FtF4jpgov/view?usp=sharing

Note: A transcript for the full comic will be available soon, and will be available for each individual page in the caption of the corresponding image once completed. I will also post the transcript in its entirety in the comments so as to avoid adding another large chunk of text to a post that contains a lot of text already.

What she says: I'm fine

What she means: The monoamine hypothesis of depression doesn't hold up under scrutiny + the conclusions the medical field has drawn about very particular neurochemical processes being the root cause of mental illnesses in general are overly simplistic and honestly a little ridiculous based on the limited data we have. The correlation we've found between brain chemistry and certain mental states is useful insofar as it's allowed us to develop treatments that can help manage symptoms and reduce their burden on a person's daily life to a significant degree, which has been beneficial whether or not those treatments address the root causes of mental illness. But it's absurd that these explanations have largely been accepted as objective fact even in the medical field when there are so many reasons to doubt them
