Today, February 14, we commemorate the life and martyrdom of St. Valentine. He's a priest that was executed for marrying young couples in Rome. Apparently, Emperor Claudius II forbade marriage for young men and women because he saw it as a hindrance for men to join the army. St. Valentine defied this order and wed couples leading to his ex*****on.

'Pag sa klase talaga, 'di maiiwasang may magtatanong na estudyante ng kung anek-anek at kung minsan pa'y kung saan-saan nanggagaling. Ito 'yung isa sa challenging sa pagiging teacher eh, ang sumagot, bumalanse (kung sasagutin ba o hindi), magtimpi (lalo na kung pilosopong tanong), at lumusot (kung 'di alam ang sagot) sa iba't-ibang tanong ng mga estudyante. Mula sa pinaka-sensible at pinaka-absurdo. Tulad ng, "Ano ang Ingles ng alamang?" "Ano ang Ingles ng alipunga?" "Bakit may talong na bilog?" "Ano ang Tagalog sa Wintermelon?" "Ano sa Tagalog ang French fries?" "Ano ang spelling ng Czechoslovakia?" "Magkano ang kidney kapag ibinenta?" "Totoo bang may aswang?" At marami pang iba. Kalimitan Tagalog o Ingles ng mga bagay-bagay ang tanong sa akin.

Pero ang pagsagot sa mga tanong ng estudyante ay siya ring isa sa mga masayang aspekto ng pagtuturo.

Ngunit, wala pa ring sagot sa tanong kung bakit ka mahalaga?

I received a message from someone reminding me of a responsibility I should’ve been doing. Upon reading it, my initial reaction was to defend myself and reply with lame excuses.

Then I thought about it and realized that it was really a negligence on my part. I should have done it because it’s my responsibility. There should be no excuses. I apologized and gave an assurance that I would be better next time.

I should be better. Lesson learned. 😊

as netizens, we should bear in mind that our initial reactions on what we see, read, and watch on social media are often wrong and incomplete.

hence, we should be wise enough not to be easily triggered and commit mistakes that we would instantly regret.

we have to know first the truth, the whole story, and the context of an issue. we can’t just blurt hastily-concluded opinions. we must remember that opinions no matter how personal they may be, must be based on facts and evidence.

that’s why sometimes we have to step back and think about a certain issue. cos we may be standing too close to an elephant. and if we’re too near to it, we’d only see its pen*s-like skin as Dave Chappelle explained it.

so, we have to momentarily pause, think, step back, and think again to clearly see the elephant and fully understand it.

remember, there’s nothing wrong with a delayed judgment—especially if its meant having it right the moment we pass it.
