A contractor for the city's Environmental Services Department will be conducting smoke testing in Apache Ridge, Navajo Hills, and from First Avenue West up to Seventh Avenue Northwest to help identify leaks in some parts of the city's sewer system beginning on Monday, Feb. 19. The smoke is harmless, non-toxic and designed especially for the sewer smoke testing process. If you have any seldom used drains, please pour water in the drain to fill the trap, which will prevent any smoke from entering your home from the sewer system.

If you have any questions, please call the Environmental Services Department at (205) 664-6825.

Update: The Highway 119 rail crossing at 14th Avenue Southwest (near the ACS Central Office) has reopened to traffic.

——————————

We have been informed that CSX plans to close the Highway 119 rail crossing at 14th Avenue Southwest (near the ACS Central Office) at 6 a.m. tomorrow, July 11, to smooth out the paving. The repair work will last until tomorrow evening and we will advise when the crossing reopens.
During the closure, drivers should use Thompson Road/First Avenue or Fulton Springs Road as a detour. As a reminder, no commercial truck traffic is allowed on 11th Avenue Southwest near City Hall, as the grade on the rail crossing on that road is too steep.
