Dear Community Partners and Organizations,

We are pleased to announce that the application is open for the 2026 season of the Formerly Incarcerated Speaker Series on Alcatraz Island. This series lifts up and highlights the voices of people who have spent time inside of jails and prisons, using our National Parks as a space for dialogue. We are proud to continue our partnership with Restorative Media and Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy to host this series.

The Formerly Incarcerated Speaker Series (FISS) 2026 Speaker Application

Speakers will be presenting their story in front of the public visiting Alcatraz Island. We provide an honorarium of $300. The series runs from May through September, with events on certain Saturdays at 1pm.

We invite you to apply, share with your network, and invite others to apply. The deadline to apply is March 21, 2026.

It’s that time again! We’re inviting members of our community out to Alcatraz to speak at the Formerly Incarcerated Speaker Series. We encourage you to share the good things and market your transformation. You should only apply, if you’re going to be in the Bay Area during the times you select. The application is open to all formerly incarcerated people. Unfortunately we do not have funding for travel or transportation. But all speakers will be compensated for their time. The formally incarcerated speaker series is produced by Restorative Media in partnership with the national Park service and the Golden Gate Parks Conservancy.
