One-man band: Camera, audio, streaming. 100% off-grid. A bit of prep to make this all work and a lot of spinning plates during live transmission as a one-person operator. The goal: ENG versatility/control using electronically motorized parfocal zoom (extreme 17X range), highly controllable audio with clean preamps/limiters, and seamless remote streaming to YouTube broadcast. The URSA Mini Pro still handles this extremely well with optional B4 mount, Hirose control connection, 4.6K downsample, and the native “Extended Video” LUT to take advantage of the UMP’s high dynamic range to handle highlights a bit better in uncontrollable high contrast scenarios (especially with no powered lighting/bounce) in live situations like this. Shark fin ran two batteries in tandem to tame the draw from about 7 thirsty devices with swapability of batteries under continual power feed. The amazing team at San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus were gracious as usual to have me on board for this project and I was thrilled it all worked out with the small footprint they wanted.

Looking forward to this being released in early 2019. This is a short form version of the film (13 minutes) Marco Solorio edited, from the production we shot last May in China (two URSA Mini Pros). Full-length version of the film is being put together now by Steve Eagleton. Everything is being done end to end in DaVinci Resolve Studio across multiple locations. I love my GH5 and as good as the video quality is, even with VLOG, the Pocket Cinema Camera 4K is far superior in video, without question. While the upgraded GH5s would be a better comparison, with both having dual native ISO, the Pocket 4K goes a huge step forward implementing full RAW/ProRes options (along with Blackmagic RAW coming). The bar has certainly been raised. Now don’t get me wrong... the GH5/GH5s were built as a stills camera first and foremost, with added video capabilities secondary, that are astoundingly good. But if mostly shooting video, the Pocket 4K is my better option, while still providing handy RAW still photo functionality to boot. And all my MFT and EF lenses that have IS are fully supported in the Pocket 4K. Interestingly, the Pocket 4K “feels” like a DSLR/mirrorless body in both form and function: changing ISO, electronic aperture, shutter angle, white balance are all very quick and easy without removing my hand from the grip or losing sight of the 5-inch screen.
